Trail run the Mount Si Trail in the Cascade Range or mountain bike the Porcupine Rim Trail in Moab with your Osprey Talon 11 Backpack loaded with water, food, and gear. The Talon 11 has a hydration compartment for your water bladder (not included) and bungee-laced front compression to hold your rain jacket. Hikers will like the bungee ties for their trekking poles. Stash your energy gel in the harness pockets and your camera or candy bars in the hip-belt pockets. This Osprey Talon Backpack features the AirScape back panel, which is padded for your comfort and has air channels to keep you cool.
Bottom Line: Mountain bike, hike, or trail run with the Osprey Talon 11 on your back.
2 years on my MTB rides. it lite, it strong, it compy and it easy to use! if the road is flat, if you going down the great rocky road it hold on your back
I've had my Osprey for almost 2 years now. I love it so much. I bought it for a multi-purpose bag, for running, biking, boarding, and even school. Its just big enough for my laptop or one class of books (thats all I carry anyways.) I have yet to find something wrong with it.
This pack will most definitely hold your 3L camel back. It has an 11 Liter volume and is hydration compatible, and osprey is really good about labeling where things go (look for the H20 tab at the top of the bag. There should be a hole for feeding your camel back tube through). If it's like other osprey packs, it will have it's own compartment inside for the bladder itself.

I picked this pack up by accident. I actually was planning on getting (and had purchased) the Talon 22. I went to the warehouse and picked up my gear and accidentally received the 11 instead. I am actually very happy that I accidentally received the Talon 11 because I would have over packed the 22 just because it has the room. If you are looking for a great day pack that is great for extremely hot weather. Look no further. The AirScape ventilated foam HDPE back panel really allows your back to breath. This is a great back frame system that reduces back sweating on really hot days. This pack is also great for trail running and mountain biking being hydration compatible.
How do you use the strap retention system? After I adjust the pack to my size, there are large loops along the sides and front of my hips. The C-clips dont seem to attach anywhere except to itself. This is dangerous when I'm hiking along and something gets caught
hi! unfortunately, thats as good as it gets, they are meant to hold the straps in line with themselves instead of dangling annoyingly, if you don't like the large loops your getting (and i don't blame you) you can detach the c-clips and tuck the excess strap into a different place or just let the strap dangle, but you might end up with your current problem of them getting caught. but sorry to say, your using them properly, and thats how they're supposed to look.
It hurts me to say this, but I currently own 9 packs. For a one day trip to bust out 5-18 miles this pack is by far the most comfortable and lightest pack I own. It fits right, the materials are sturdy, the cinch ties around the waist work great. It holds a 100 oz insulated Camelbak without issue or hassle. The size is spot on. Big enough to hold your water, extra shirt, socks, light rain jacket, and food. If I could suggest one improvement, the two chest straps have pockets for gels, gps, camera etc. they could be, the opening, just a tad bit bigger. It is a tight fit.
Small and lightweight but carries a load. I used this on Kilimanjaro as my only pack while porters carried much of our gear. I am an efficient packer, but fit more into this pack than my teammates fit it packs twice its size. I love this pack. So many places and ways to tuck things in or strap them on, and hydration compatible.
these smaller packs usually fall around your waist, not solidly on your hips. the belt is more for stablilty, not load bearing like a large pack. cheers.
I am very happy with this pack. I have been looking for a day pack that fits 'just right'. I am 5'6 (almost) and 127lbs. Medium frame. This is a perfect size for my day hikes. Water bottle, cell phone, my bee sting kit, an extra t-shirt or rain jacket and maybe even a small bagged lunch will fit nicely. Couldn't be happier!
This is a great little pack. I am 6'3" and have the M/L. If you are much taller then that you may have a little trouble getting it adjusted just right. I use this for my ultralight daypack. It gives enough room for a hydration bladder and a some food and a light rain jacket. Great little pack. It also does well for mountain biking..
I don't see why not. Make sure you get fitted for the pack. Be sure the waist belt will fit around your waist. If your torso is short the s/m may fit better and therefore place the waist belt in the right place. Like I said, getting fitted is the best thing you can do when buying a new pack.
Product was fine but was smaller than anticipated - I returned it and got the Talon 22 which had the capacity I wanted. I like the design of the 22 a litlle better
I've had more than a few packs since a rucksack in 1961. I've always hated day packs because their suspension system isn't comfortable if you actually put more in the pack than napkin or two.
I put a 2 liter water bladder in it, filled of course, along with my mountain bike tools and first aid stuff, and biked into the rugged Henry Coe State Park backcountry.
Coe is famous for its tough climbs and a rescue was underway when we arrived. The roads and trails were designed for ranchers with horses and Jeeps, not backpacking and mountain biking. If a piece of equipment is going to act badly this is the place it will happen. Specialized tests their bikes there.
We biked and hiked the bikes over 2,000 feet of climbing and dropped down narrow technical trails for 10 miles. The pack was never uncomfortable. It was no more annoying than having a wallet in your back pocket.
I bought a 2 liter water bladder because I thought that great weight would be uncomfortable. I'll probably buy a 4L for my longer summer trips. The bladder area of the pack looks like it has this capacity.
My next use will be for trail work in the Ventana Wilderness near Big Sur, California. Last summer's huge fire left the trails in a mess.
The only reason I didn't give this pack 5 stars is the hip belt. The criss cross strap design makes adjusting them more hassle than it should be and they hang loose if you're small and don't have a belly. I adjusted mine as small as it could go and there was still a lot of slack. The pack is great for day hikes though and is very light. There's plenty of room for everything a person would need to bring for a day.
I was going to purchase the Talon 11 but wanted to confirm it is the 2009 version before doing so, since the picture on your website is of the 2008 version i believe
I just bought a second one. Great for running and biking to/from the office ... thus the need for a second one if I leave one at home/office. Looks cool, holds a lot of stuff, and is capable of more than I'll probably use it for. Plus it's comfortable ... you forget you are wearing it a lot of the time. I'm a fan.
I've had this pack for a year now and have yet to find serious fault with it. Ok, so there's more white fabric than I would recommend for outdoor use (shows dirt), but otherwise, this thing rocks. I've used the Talon for biking, dayhiking, and trail running. It's cool on the back, has a sweet suspension, and adjusts intuitively. The gel/mp3 pockets on the shoulder straps are extremely handy.
I'm will be running my first ultra marathon this summer and am looking for a running pack for the event. Is this pack great for running or are there better designs for long distances?
I bought this pack for riding my bike. It is a nice size for short trips and stays put on your back. It works well to carry an extra layer of clothes or a lunch. Very satisfied with the workmanship of pack almost wish it was a little more simplified but over all very pleased.
I bought this pack because I am doing an adventure race next month. I was worried that it would move around and slosh around and generally be a pain in the @#$*. I just finished an eight-mile trail run and it was perfect. No movement, plenty of room to run. It's also big enough to use for whatever a day might bring. And it's an Osprey which means it's great quality.
There are stretch panels on both sides for water bottles. This pack is sick. I can stuff my shell, a fleece, a huge lunch, 100 oz of water, my digital camera, and still have room for a pair of socks.
My first day pack for hiking. I did a lot of research and looked at bricks & mortar places before ordering this online. I'm very pleased. Great construction, comfortable and looks good too.
Love my new Osprey pack! Its the perfect size. I hiked in the pouring rain and nothing inside got a single drop of water on it. The back is ventilated, making it much more comfortable. Also very lightweight, would recommend it to anyone!
Hey Jcr, You will want to go with a medium large. I am 5'10 155 and I personally wear the m/l and it fits me very well. If anything, a bit on the small side but I am not complaining. If you are going to wear this over a leather motor cycle jacket, you would want something that is going to offer a bit more room for adjustment. I agree with the M/L size plus you'll be able to carry more gear like creature comforts.
I had been using a dakine heli pack for day hikes and was very unhappy with it (harsh on the shoulders, zippers hard to access). The Talon is so much better. It is lighter to start with, the straps and back panel are light and airy, great for hot summer days, the zippers are plenty easy to access and use, etc. Plenty of room for a layer, water, sandwich, first aid kit, etc. It's just perfect for day hikes.
I wanted to start running home from work (+ trails) & was looking for a good running pack; thank God I came across the Talon 11, it is just perfect. Once strapped on & adjusted it stayed PUT. No swaying or shifting & the airscape back panel kept my back dry. It has more than enough space for my needs, my shirt, pants, my jacket (with the bungee-laced front), gels, cell phone, ipod etc. Make sure you get the size! I'm 5'6 138 lbs & got the S/M which is dead on for me! Great pack, great service from Backcountry & look forward to running a lot with this. BTW you can fit a small bottled water in the side pockets.
I have enjoyed this backpack a lot. I have taken it day hiking and trail running. I can't imagine that there could be a better running backpack because it stays in place very well. It is big enough to fit small first aid kit, rain jacket, snack, and large bottle of water with a little room to spare. The S/M is a good size for me (woman 5'5" about 115 pounds).
I have a larger Osprey (Aura 35) but this Talon is perfect for day hikes. The woman-specific sizing is the best. I am short-waisted and cannot wear many other sized packs.
I purchased my Osprey Talon 11 as a lightweight replacement for my Dakine Heli-Pro (which is perfect on the slopes in winter but a bit heavy for summer sports). I first used it in a summer ultra-distance event and couldn't be happier ... the mesh breathes well, it's really lightweight and it stays securely in place so there's no chafing issues if trail running. I've since used it for mountain biking and it's a nice size for tools plus weather gear. And the gel/snack pockets are right where you need them to be.
Hiked the White Mts of New Hampshire with this pack. Just perfect on weight and comfort. I was able to hold my extra clothing, first aide kit, flash lights, lunch, rain coat and wind breaker. I wish I didn't wait so long to buy it! Best pack that I have used.
