Description
The Raptor 14 dominates a day of mud-slinging.
Hit the singletrack with the reinforced reservoir of the Osprey Raptor 14 Hydration Pack and be ready for the rough stuff. The breathable suspension system wears well and doesn’t buckle under the pack's weight as you speed down the mountain on your two-wheeled machine.
- Included HydraForm reservoir's rigid structure and handle keep its shape as you ride, and installs or uninstalls quickly
- Pivot bite valve twists 180 degrees and cuts off the flow for a leak-free ride
- AirScape Suspension includes breathable foam padded mesh back panel, hip-belt, and shoulder harness
- Hip-belt stows around the front of the pack by attaching to the front blinker patch
- Magnetic feature on shoulder harness secures bite valve
- Lid-Lock attachment system holds your bike helmet on the way to the trailhead
- Reflective graphics and blinker attachment patch keep you visible when you encounter on- or off-road traffic

Just bought this a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. This is the perfect size for a long day hike, with enough room for snacks, phone, wallet, keys, some gear, and a jacket. Plenty of pockets and compartments to organize your stuff. Reservoir seems durable and it holds enough water for a whole day.
Comfortable when hiking, doesn't move around at all even when going faster. I'm 6'0, 200lbs and the L fits the bill.
Durable, functional, fits great

Every osprey pack I own fits like a dream so that is no problem here. Tight and compact while riding, vents pretty well considering it is a backpack. Perfect amount of space for an all day ride for me, meaning, food, jacket, tools, knee and elbow pads. But when I go lighter, it snugs up nice with no dead space. Bladder has performed flawlessly for me now for a year and a half. I ride in wet and muddy conditions a ton and this thing has held up great. You can't go wrong in my mind!

Sizing question: male, average build, 5'8, 165 lbs - do I get S/M or M/L?
Arthur Debowski

It really depends on your torso length. If you have a torso in the 18 or 19"range or larger, get the M/L. Anything shorter, go S/M.

I would go with the S/M. I am 6'0, 200lbs and the M/L fits well. If anything, it's not small/snug enough.
Reservoir leaking

The backpack itself is good, but the reservoir started leaking at the bottom, near the seam, after the 5th. use. Not good at all, and it will be returned. Too bad, since i really love my Osprey backpacks!
love it

My first Osprey product and I am elated with my purchase. I use this pack for day hikes, kayak and bike trips. More room than might be expected. It is ideal for day trips with spare fleece and rain gear. The hydration bladder has a wide mouth and is easy to fill, clean, and dry. Zipper quality is phenomenal and the lifetime warranty speaks for the manufacturers confidence in their product.

Well thought out pack, I use it for rides between 2 and 6 hrs give or take. May not be big enough if you need to carry extra layers and a bunch of food. I have the 18 for that. Not crazy about the magnetic hose thing, I just trimmed the hose so it hangs at the length I want. Very durable, awesome bladder.

I really REALLY want to like this pack. It's the perfect size and I love the hydration system. I knew I was taking a gamble purchasing a men's pack because the sizing can be funky for women...and I think that's the issue with this pack for me. Because of the stiffness along the back of the pack (which I thought I would like), the pack is too wide to fit a woman's body between the shoulder blades (at least for me...I'm slim, but I have very wide shoulders for a girl). It rubs my shoulder blades all weird, and it makes me very reluctant to take this pack on an outing that is more than an hour because I don't want to get rubbed beyond annoyance and end up carrying it by hand. Over a heavier softshell or fleece, it's OK, but I want this to be my go-to pack...and right now, I'm too scared to take it out on anything serious. Not good :( Will probably end up sending it back even though I keep willing it to fit me right... Major bummer. Fits my boyfriend just dandy though! :)

I bought this pack a while ago and use it 3-5 times a week. I love the flexibility of the bag (although it is meant for MTB, I take it hiking as well), it has plenty of room for what I use it for.
One of the best parts is its warranty, a thron bush put some holes in it while I was hiking. I called them up, paid for shipping and they had it repaired for me and shipped right back.
Great bag, great customer service. All my bags from here out are going to be Osprey.

I just ran the Spartan Ultra Beast, a 26 mile obstacle/mud race in Vermont with this bag on 9/22/2012, and it did an amazing job! I literally dragged this bag through mud, over rocks, and under barbed wire, fell on it, crawled, rolled, swam, climbed, and it doesnt have a scratch on it. Some slight staining of the mud but that is pretty much it. Its reliable, tough, the bladder doesnt shake around, and all the weight rests on your hips and not on your back. This bag will be coming with me to all my races!

I bought this to replace a Dakine Nomad, which was stolen. I liked the Nomad, but this pack is far superior, in that it is larger ( has a great bladder, which is super easy to fill), has more useful pockets, but seems to be lighter. You can load it up for a full day ride, or just head out for a couple of hours without the pack seeming floppy.
So far, it's been plenty durable (slightly less than a year's use), and the light construction has not been an issue. The only thing that doesn't really work well, is the magnetic valve holder, which has lost a lot of it's power and falls off after the slightest bump....strangely, it still has plenty of strength to pick up all the iron particles when placed down into dry dirt and sand...kind of cool from a geology perspective!
Excellent MTB Pack

This is a great choice for a Mountain Bike pack. Perfect size for those that aren't worried about being a minimalist. Easily holds hand pump, two tubes, lunch, and a jacket. Osprey bladder is best out there.
Awesome!

I love this pack. I have used it for every day hike I have gone on since it arrived!! With a 3L bladder and wicked bite valve (awesome if you use it properly) that is held in place by a magnet (awesome), I have since given away my two other day packs. The outer pocket is stretchy which is very versatile. I use the helmet elastic part to secure my extra layer of clothing (easily accessible). Very comfortable, lots of storage, and holds more than you'd think - I typically fit 3L water + first aid kit + lunch + snacks + jacket + extra layer + spare socks + gloves + hat + insect repellant + bear spray + sunscreen + emergency SPOT device. Sweet!! Perfect for me. Oh - and the sides can be synched down if you have spare room. If concerned about space, go up a size and synch it!
Perfect MTB Pack!

I bought this for mountain biking and it's perfect. The Lid-Lock is so convenient and the hydration reservoir couldn't be better. Unlike the Raptor 10, the Raptors 14 and 18 can easily carry a full-face helmet. The only thing I like better about Camelbaks over this pack is the bite valve. This beats a Camelbak in every other category, though. Get one.

i did not buy this through backcountry, but i've written some reviews today and thinking of my favorite gear, this one is up there. day hikes, fieldwork, long mtb rides this pack excels. pedaling up long climbs, i stick my helmet on the handy helmet mount and it doesn't move.
my other day packs are really neglected. opsrey packs are not only designed with alot of thought, they feel great. i own the Exos and Aether, both excellent and comfortable. like the aether, this pack comfortably holds weight when you've over packed. i would go with one size down for my uses. i need to stop buying packs.
Great Daypack

I mainly use the Raptor 14 as a day pack for hiking, and it works wonderfully. The hydration bladder is a lifesaver. I can comfortably carry enough water for me, my girlfriend and my dog, along with some food and basic first aid in the pockets and still have plenty of room to spare. I am thinking of taking this backpack on a multi-day ultralight camping trip in two weeks into the High Uintas Wilderness and I fully expect it to be up to the task.

could someone please comment and/or attach photos of the interiors? there are two zippered compartments, no? within these, are there paneled pockets for sorting and holding smaller items?
i'm looking for an all-purpose bag, i don't have much to bring with me. stuff for my 1-year-old daughter, few items. both for city and for hiking. most importantly, i like to have some organization with where and how my belongings are kept within the bag. mesh outer pockets are a huge plus.
i'm torn between this and osprey's daylite attachment. thoughts?

There are a lot of zippers on this pack. Skipping the hydration sleeve zipper, the topmost one is a small, zippered pocket for a camera or other small object...mp3 player maybe. Then, the main pocket has the most volume and has sleeves sewn into it for organization. I use them to hold a shock pump and a mini pump. Two are about 6" deep or so and 2-3" wide and there's a stretch mesh pocket in the center. There's another zippered pocket that has two mesh pockets sewn in and a key clip.. Then, there's the stretchy kangaroo pouch on the outside that can accommodate all sorts of goods. I use that for extra layers. The stretch side pockets aren't useful for much.

thanks dave. very good to know. i figured if this is a common bag for bikers, then it would certainly accommodate the many accessories necessary.

I use the side pockets (day hiking) for sunscreen, bear spray, and/or bug spray. that's about the size of them.
