All good vacations start with a little hassle. Let Osprey ease the pain.

Osprey built the Porter 65 to give you plenty of room to carry a week's worth of vacation with light weight and tons of mobility. You can sling the Porter over your shoulder with the removable shoulder strap for a quick dash from your cab to the ticket counter, or use the Porter as a full-blown backpack for the trek to gate A61. Either way, you'll be passing all the idiots standing on the moving sidewalk so you'll have more time to listen to the delay time add up at your gate.

Do you know if the Porter 65 can pass as a carry on?

It can and already has. Warning, if it is packed to the gills, it will not pass. But if under-packed, it will pass just fine.

How does this compare to the Waypoint 65?

I like to think of the Porter as a "Quick and Dirty" pack for travel. When you might need to check it, the straps and hipbelt zip away so they won't catch on anything. Then you need to tote it around, it won't throw your back out using a shoulder strap.

The Waypoint 65 is more of a Cadillac of travel packs. The harness and hipbelt is MUCH CUSHIER and the pack is torso sized so--if you get the correct size--the carry of this pack is similar to a fancy backpacking pack. It will carry weight without feeling like it is carrying all that weight. There is a cover for the harness and hipbelt (again if you need to check it). Did I mention the zip-off day pack that comes with the Waypoint 65? Or that there is a women's specific made more for a woman's dimensions?

The bonus of the Porter 65 is it's simplicity. Also, it is frameless so it is easier to squeeze in overhead compartments. Lastly, if you get a pack called the Daylight, it snaps to the front "D" loops that are on the Porter, giving you a removeable daypack.

The Waypoint has a frame to it so it will not fit in most overhead compartments easily. It will carry much better AND if you are towards the ends of the spectrum of torso lengths (smaller or longer), this will carry SO MUCH BETTER than the Porter... The Porter is great for the middle 80% but the 10% on either end should look towards something sized--like the Waypoint.

Wow. Do you want me to sign this novel I just wrote? :)

you'll like this set up. (Stair case)NO pulling, slip on your backpack shoulder harness or your single shoulder strap and up/down you go....The Porter 65 can carry a weeks worth of clothing, lots of space. Pack smart....
