A versatile day pack for bike commuters, weekend travelers, school-goers, and rugged day hikers alike.

Whether you're commuting, hitting the beach for the final waves of the season, or taking a two-day bus tour of Amish settlements, take the trip's essentials in the Osprey Momentum 30 Backpack. For your cycling craze, this pack has a Lidlock Helmet Clip, U-lock storage pocket, and blinker light attachment tab. If you prefer flip-flops and sand, 30 liters of storage holds your towel, sunscreen, water bottles, and snacks with room to spare. When you're off for the weekend, put your toiletries and clean undies in the bottom, and leave maps and your camera on top. This pack keeps going until you've collapsed, and even in your prone position, this daypack is still super comfortable.
The EVA foam padded shoulder straps and ridge-molded foam Airspace make wearing this backpack downright dreamy. Compression straps, a nylon waist belt, and the adjustable sternum strap help bring down the bounce-factor when you're launching your bike off of curbs or traveling over scree fields. If your excursions are more air-travel or urban-oriented, the dual-zippered tech pocket holds both your laptop and tablet, making it easy to access or store your electronic devices once the front boarding door has closed. From a different perspective, this pocket lets you access your technical ties to the outside world without sharing your dirty laundry from the weekend in Vegas, ahem.
A zippered top slash pocket features a combination of mesh and fabric organizational options, including an attached key clip. Both the pack and included rain cover have blinker light attachment tabs. Come rain or clear skies, light up the night with your own source of luminescence. The integrated rain cover hides in a bottom zipped compartment when not being used. Side mesh pockets hold your water bottle or tire pump. With this beefy backpack, you can bike, hike, and travel with everything you'd ever want at your fingertips.

Exceptional pack, not for a lot of books

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First off, I love Osprey packs in general. They put an immense amount of thought into every detail and every aspect of their packs, and it is apparent in the resulting product.

The laptop section of this pack is great. It does have its limits though. You can't put a laptop and three textbooks in there - it gets tight and tough to remove things one at a time. But a laptop, two textbooks and a notebook works better. I don't like to put softcover books that are wider than, say, 8" in the other main compartment because the corners hit where my water bottle is. The water bottle slots are great and easy to access with both shoulder straps on, but the sacrifice is that the second compartment is slightly angled at the bottom - bad for softcover books, great for smaller items, lunch, clothes.
Also the helmet holder is neat. I've never used it but it doesn't get in the way at all.

Other than that single limitation this pack is incredible. Build quality is right in line with the rest of Osprey products, and you can't beat their warranty.

If you need a backpack for school, commuting, or work (basically anytime you need a backpack and aren't going to have a ton of soft cover textbooks), this pack will do it all incredibly well.

Drinking OJ out of a champagne glass

This bag is great. It works exactly how I need it to. I can fit my arduino kit, several notebooks and a 15 inch laptop and still have plenty of room! As others have said, my only complain is the zippers! they are so stiff it takes two hands to undo them, hopefully they break in over time though. Other than that I love this bag!

      Great If you Love Organization

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pack works well for it's intended purpose, bike commuting, it works equally well as an all around everyday carry pack as well.

The cycling specific design and features are well thought out and don't detract from the bag when it's used off the bike. There's Osprey's lid lock feature that can carry a typical vented helmet, a place to attach a light, the pack doesn't come up to high so it's comfortable to wear with a helmet even in an aggressive cycling position, and it's Airscape panel does an ok job at venting your back. I think my favorite features is the zippered pocket on the shoulder strap with a retractable key holder so you don't have to remove the pack and dig through to find keys to your house or lock.

There's a ton of organization in this pack. It features a large padded laptop sleeve with a zippered pocket in that compartment. A large compartment with a zippered pocket, a divider, and 3 little pockets to dump smaller items. There's a small pocket up front for small essentials and another place to clip keys. There's also two zippered side pockets.

My main complaint about this pack is the stiffness of the zipper, I'm hoping they break in over time but the shielded zippers can sometimes take two hands to open and close. Other than that it's a comfortable, adjustable pack with smart features, a decent look, and a really nice top handle. Organization freaks will really like all the internal pockets in this pack.

      Great bag, but SMALL.

This should just be considered a day/weekender pack. Great bag, well made, and lots of nice features. My only complaint is that it's a rather small bag. Both in volume and size. I am 6'3" and this looks like a child's bag on my back. But that shouldn't be a negative, it's just a day pack remember.
If you want something more outdoorsy look for a model with an included hip strap/water bladder pouch or a bit more space.
However if you just need something for daily commuting or a weekend trip some where this is perfect.

        Great bag, but SMALL.

There seems to be 2 stock photos for the Carbide Grey, and I assume that there are different models. The newer is a cool, bluish grey. I like what your picture shows, which I assume is the older model. Do you know if the picture above is accurate?
