carrying books, riding a bike....

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

A few years ago I borrowed a friend's Osprey Talon for a day hike and was stunned by how light it felt, how effortlessly it handled all the weight. I immediately bought my own Talon 24 and got rid of all my messenger bags. I used the Talon for about a year--mostly for daily life: 75 miles of bike commuting a week, carrying books and pens and paper and water bottles and occasionally some snacks or clothes. The Talon felt great--especially biking, and day hiking on the weekends--but I realized it was not designed to carry books. It really beat my books up, no matter how carefully I packed them in. I am a teacher and a writer and I live in a city and ride my bike and fill my bag with books every day. Then I was in a camping store and I noticed the Flapjack. I tried it on. I liked it. But I wasn't quite ready to spend $100. When I saw that I could get it on sale, I went for it. It's just as comfortable as the Talon--a little heavier, but also much more solid. And it's designed to hold all those things I carry around to the library, to campus, to parks, coffee shops--without beating them up or making them awkward to find. I still use the Talon for hiking. But this bag is exactly what I've been looking for.

Not what I Expected...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this pack for taking my books and Macbook to and from classes and have been fairly pleased. However compared to other Osprey packs the Flapjack just didn't have the loads of features you get in other Osprey packs. That being said this is by far the best pack I have ever had for simple commutes like walking/biking to class and riding the bus. I only wish I could use it for other activities as well.

very good backpack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

this back pack has been with me everywhere. i go school, bike, take public transportation, and occasionally run with it. it has stood up to all the weather, from round 29 degrees to into the hundreds and from light rain to down pours.this back pack keeps all my paper and lap top dry and safe. it fits very well on your back and with a heavy load is still very comfortable. if your carrying though your days worth of books and note books for school along with your lap top and lunch, there is a little extra room. i swim a few times a week and run/bike even more about once a week i do all three for training and find it hard to fit in a towel, swim suit, and a change of cloths for after my workout along with my days worth of books, note books, and laptop. as long as your just carrying a few books and one change of cloths and nothing more, great bag. i honestly love it, all i do it put my gym and swimming cloths in a draw string bag and tie it under the flap of the flapjack. problem solved. the lap top sleeve is elevated of the bottom of the bag, perfects if your bag falls. distributes the weight on your hips and legs, and keeps all your belongings dry in rainy weather. plenty of space in the additional pockets of all your belongings and the flap of the bag makes it extremely difficult for anyone to pickpocket you keeping all your belongings safe for the hands of evil.
so great bag, i really love, id love it even more if the main compartment was bigger or if there was two main compartments, one for books and such and the other for cloths.

Solid commuter backpack!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The flapjack pack is awesome. It was designed (in my opinion) for commuters that ride bikes to work. The pockets for the laptop has enough padding to protected from sudden and jerky movement. There other pockets are definitely handy. I use this backpack every day now and love it. I like it that it sits higher on my back, and although it has a lot of room to bring an extra change of clothes, it is not bulky because it stays close to your body. The good looks do not hurt either, and the little band in the back is perfect for a bright light or reflector. This is a SOLID backpack. It is the right size for daily commute, it may need more room if you are going to do some overnight stuff (in my opinion)

This pack is a great size and plenty of compartments. It is taking me a bit to get used to the large Flap and access to the main storage.I just carried it all over southern Costa Rica and found it to be very durable and spacious enough for everything I needed to get through a day (2 Cameras, change of clothes, water and lunch plus all the things that stay in my pack at all times)

The bag is the perfect size for my laptop and a change of clothes and I love the style. As a matter of fact on my first business trip with it I had someone comment on it and want to know where I got. I smiled and said
