Looks nice

I was looking for a commuter bag to go from home to school. i was looking at the previous version, but the black was not on sale and the new version was on sale.

Caleb, you will love this pack - it has great organization, in a clean, uncluttered look! Thank you for reviewing!

Osprey just updated their classic Flapjack for fall 2015. I was looking to update from my old Dakine cause it was finally coming to the end of its life and the Osprey has a lot of great features for a commuter/school/urban backpack. It's been a popular choice for employees for a few years and the new upgrades are worth mentioning.

First of all, the new pack is the best looking Flapjack ever. The design is clean and aesthetically pleasing. The new edition only has one buckle, instead of the two, which makes it easier to open and close. The flap is trimmed with the same 900D fabric the pack is made of, which makes for a very sleek finish.

The pockets on the new edition are simpler and more user friendly than the old version. There are two zippered pockets located in front of the large cargo pocket. One is smaller and has organizational pockets for pens/pencils and other items for school (I don't use them). The other pocket is larger and I have yet to use it because I forget it's there.

The laptop sleeve is plenty padded and fits both my work and personal laptops (not at the same time). The tablet sleeve is also padded and is plenty big for my full size tablet.

The water bottle holder on the side is very clever. The holder is gusseted and an elastic holds the gusset closed when not in use. This keeps the pack streamline when the water bottle holder isn't in use. When you put a water bottle in it, the gusset expands the pocket and fits snug around your water bottle. Whether it's holding a bottle or not, the pocket is the right size. I have yet to use the zippered side pocket.

My only gripe and the reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the pocket on the flap. The zipper is located directly beneath the padded grab handle. It's very difficult to retrieve items from the pocket because the handle is in the way. If the pocket and handle were offset it would be easier to get items in and out of the pocket.

Overall the pack is very comfortable and well built. You'll love the pack and its versatility!

Hi, Cameron! I love the color, HOOK 'EM! As such, it may be only a matter of time before one of these ends up in my hands. I had one of the slightly older versions on my REI wishlist for quite sometime, but was hesitant without the water bottle pocket. Obviously the folks at Osprey were listening with the switch to single closure buckle and water bottle pouch. Will the pocket hold a 32oz Hydro Flask? It is my new water bottle of choice. Thanks!

It will hold a 32 oz. Hydro Flask. The elastic helps keep the bottle nice and snug so it won't flop around or fall out when you're on the go! I just snapped a picture of a 40 oz Hydro Flask in the pocket. I'll try to add it to the review later today or tomorrow.
