The Exposure 66 is Osprey's premier large-capacity expedition pack for light and fast alpine climbs. Whether you're headed to the Peruvian Andes or into the Colorado backcountry, this mountaineering backpack has everything you need. From the top down, the Exposure 66 accommodates your gear. Tie your rope into the floating top pocket, organize your screws on the internal daisy chain, secure your skis in the Hypalon carry straps, and safely stash your mountaineering essentials in the leashless tool holsters and shovel wing. In the Exposure 66 comfort is paramount. This pack's StetchComfort foam laminate harness, straightjacket compression, and Exposure CM custom molded hipbelt ensure you always shoulder a comfortable load.
Bottom Line: The Osprey Exposure 66 is a lightweight mountaineering backpack that will meet the demands of any hardcore Alpinist.
I feel surprised to read so many 5 star ratings for this pack. Yes, it is a good is ski touring pack, comfortable to wear and great to have a removable lid. However, the frame sits too high, so that for climbing, looking up is impossible with a helmet on. My attempt to take the frame out for an ascent day proved fruitless, maybe there are some instructions this somewhere, but it is not particularly straight forward. The pack would also be improved with some drain holes in the bottom, as the fabric is not very water proof. Sorry, wouldn't recommend this pack for someone who climbs on steeper terrain.
I just used this pack for climbing 6 prominent peaks in the NW (81 miles, total of 37000 ft, single-day and multi-day technical climbs). PROS: This light weight pack can easily carry 50 to 60 lbs with the right waist belt. Pack collapses down for day ascents. CONS: No crampon patch/straps. The thermal molded belt that comes with this pack is inadequate for 50+ lbs. I switched to the heavier Bioform belt after the first peak which significantly increased the performance of the pack.
This is an absolutely amazing pack! Osprey added everything you'll need for a nice climbing outing. I don't pack heavy enough to use this only as a day pack. I can use this for a 4 or 5 day job. I tend to have heavier gear than bulky so my packs end up heavy but Osprey stayed right in line with their norm so this pack is wicked comfortable! They thought of pretty much everything including a daisy chain, several gear loops, shovel or axe regions without the stress of destroying your pack. There's not much extra I could think about adding to this pack. I've been very, very happy with it. The only thing I did was I waterproofed it with Nikwax UV proof and I bought the Osprey Rain cover from backcountry.

I really appreciate this Osprey pack after using a much heavier but not much bigger pack. Light weight and 66L, it carries a full load for a week's trek (especially if you also pack light gear). The support I find to be excellent, while not bulky and stiff. The trim design helps on the uneven way up. I usually divide my gear in color bags so there is no need for added access (and weight) of side or bottom entry. I'm very pleased.
I used this pack for a winter ascent on Rainer last year, and I am already planning an ascent of Mt Blanc with the same pack...this pack does it all. This pack can carry all of the gear that I need and fits it firmly to my back; however, the best part about this pack is the weight, it is virtually weightless. For the money, nothing is better for fast, overnight ski ascents.
Fits great, like all Osprey packs. Belt is comfortable even without molding it. 50 lbs feels secure and does not shift around. Very light but well constructed. I will be using it for a trip to Ecuador.
this is a great overall climbing pack. this pack holds all of my gear and has a great rope secure on the top of the pack. it holds pretty much everything i need for a full day of climbing and then some and the suspension is fairly the stable for the amount of weight i carry. this is a great pack for day trips requiring a lot of gear.
