    Pockets - Pockets

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Tons of pockets everywhere! Unlike a lot of backpacks out there, the pockets on this pack are well thought out and are all fairly useful. So far it seems to be of typical Osprey quality (great), and I look forward to some upcoming trips with it.

A lot of storage -- needs better hip belt

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like this backpack for all of my commuting needs. i take it biking, on the bus, and in my carpool. It has a lot of storage, with great pockets for organization. I personally like the top storage for my phone and keys. Ample space for a laptop in the rear sleeve. My one complaint is the hip belt is small - it is just a ribbon. Ideally, it would be more padded and have a bigger buckle for larger loads.

Hey John! The Celeste is great for all of the things you mention, but another reason would be the price at $100! If we were to toss a hipbelt on there, then you are looking at $120 or more, which is not where we want to be on this one. One of the considerations with making a simpler hipbelt is also because many people do not utilize the belt on this kind of pack. When they do, we want to have it more as a connection to your body for stabilization, rather than a bulky hipbelt. Still, you may be on to something! I will reach out to my friends at Osprey about designing a communter / school bag with a more comfortable belt.

    Thanks for writing!

    Awesome backpack

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Really really sharp backpack. I bought as a gift for my wife, but really like the design myself. Osprey makes the best of all packs in my opinion.

Quantum or Celeste, I can't decide!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Okay, so I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Osprey Quantum pack. I have worn the crap out of it since getting it in April. But then I realized I was bored of the color. Stupid excuse to get another backpack. I was browsing through REI (I window shop there and order from Backcountry!) and saw the new comet/celeste packs. I instantly liked the versatile compartments (there are a few more than my quantum).

I ended up buying it through my company for a discount, otherwise it would have been bought here. I'll review it nonetheless! For starters, it's a tad bit smaller than my Quantum. I thought it would be similar in size, given that the laptop compartment is separate, but once it's in there, it's hard to jam pack it like I do my quantum (I can get 3 laptops plus clothes in there).

The main compartment is great - still holds essentials, extra layers, rain coat, chargers for laptops, etc... I love the smaller compartment for a phone. I use it for all the electronic things (mainly chargers). I time triathlons so I need power all the time - I'm not a phone junkie.

I use the NEXT compartment down (yes, that's 4 so far) for pens, extra stuff, hats, cords, etc... anything that will fit - it's an organizational compartment.

SIDE NOTE - when you start jam packing all these pockets, the others get smaller as they fill up.

There's also 2 zippered pockets in the laptop sleeve and the main (for other essentials) and a divider for notebooks or paper.

I didn't think I would like the lack of a stretch pocket on the outside, but I LOVE the handle! It's amazing because I am constantly throwing it all over and it makes for easy grabbing. The side stretch pockets are my fav, as usual. I could not use a bag without these!

As always, Osprey does it again. This pack is amazing but I will say that it is still Number 2 compared to my quantum. The pockets are nicer (so it wins there) but I love the extra space in the main compartment of my quantum.

    THE ORANGE IS KILLER!!!

    Is this pack water proof?

    Hi Carly,

This pack is not waterproof. You can however buy a rain cover to go over the pack. I would recomend the Osprey Ultralight Rain Cover (Item #OSP002O). You can keep it in the pack and then pull it out should you run into some weather. If you need anything else, please feel free to reach out to me directly. -Matthew Pizza -
