5pm Friday: You punch the time clock and dash for the hills. Osprey knows you only have a weekend to get away, so it made the Women's Ariel 75 Backpack simple and functional. Two side pockets and a sleeping bag compartment help you keep the Ariel 75 Backpack organized while you load it with the necessities. Osprey also added a front stretch pocket for the last-minute shell that you add when you see the weather report. When the time comes to shoulder your gear, you'll appreciate the incredibly comfortable IsoForm suspension system and the support provided by this pack's aluminum stays.

Bottom Line: Make your weekend count.

Not A Question: Just wanted to state that the Ariel series packs will be redesigned in 2010 (much like the Aura series was this year) to include new features like ice axe bungees and the 'Stow-on-the-Go' pole carrying system.

Ariel 75 Women's Backpack

The Ariel 75 will hold a lot of gear, and it carries the load very well. The pack definitely felt like it had a women's specific fit, and I love Osprey Packs' attention to detail. The ventilated back is wonderful, and the hip belt fits nicely, as do the padded shoulder straps which are a bit closer together for women's narrower shoulders. I've done multi-day solo trips in late fall/early winter and fit everything, including a very warm, rather bulky synthetic sleeping bag. What wonderful is the compression straps on the pack work really well for packing smaller loads in this largish pack. Obviously, I would highly recommend this choice!

I'm planning to use this pack primarily in bear country and I have two questions: 1) will a large sized Bearvault fit in this pack? 2) would it fit in sideways?
A friend recommended packing the pack with the bear canister sideways in the small of your back. What do you think?

Yeah... I believe the question was regarding a food carrying vault, not a can of pepper spray...

i think its better to hike with the bear canister in a holster on your belt. if you need it in a pinch, you don't want to be reaching behind your back. its all about the quick draw. happy hiking.

GREAT!

This is a GREAT pack! it is the perfect size for weekend trips. I have done solo weekend trips with this! The suspesion system is great and the hip belt is really comfortable. Make sure you measure your torso and get the right size for that. I had back surgery and this makes carrying a heavier load unnoticeable and distributes the weight very nicely over my back. It fits my tiny shoulders great as well. Love this!

If it's well packed, you shouldn't have a problem. Be sure to also take some means of water purification with you, my personal favorite is the SteriPEN UV Purification. No nasty aftertaste, and very safe.http://www.backcountry.com/store/brand/100000008/Hydro-Photon.htmlIf you use a compression stuff sacks to pack your bulky items you can probably make this pack work for your needs.

I personally couldn't fit a weeks worth of gear in this pack. I tend to pack a little heavy. You might look at the Argon 85 or 110. They'll fit loads of gear!Hope that helps. If you use a compression stuff sacks to pack your bulky items you can probably make this pack work for your needs.
