The pack can be adjusted for a perfect even as the kid grows.

At a little over 4 pounds, this is a pretty heavy pack for a little kid. Still, the volume here is very large--and the adjustment range will allow my son to use it for many years.

It's got some "neato" features that he likes in particular. The included pack cover is a nice touch, as are the hip belt pockets.

The net results is that we can trek together: he gets to carry the bulky but light stuff because the pack is so large... and that works out very well--especially when you consider that kids are usually sporting cotton clothes and bulky synthetic bags.

Took a bunch of 10 year olds (scouts) on a backpacking style trip a few months ago. 20lbs seems to be about the limit for them over any extended distance...

The load lifters seem to be very short. Does it adjust or extend long enough when the torso length is adjusted to the shortest setting?

They seem fine. On my 9 year old the load lifters are extended but don't seem too short for the job.

My ten yr old wants his own pack. The concern is that he would outgrow this pack. What size of boy would this fit and how long would this tend to fit a boy or teenager. It's one thing for a $40 pack but another for an expensive pack. I realize growth rate plays a major part.

Responded on

Yes he will outgrow it but probably not for several years. Growth usually accelerates quickly around puberty so, on average, in the 13-14 range and the pack covers up to an adult small. Since several up to maybe as much as 4-5 years of fit may be covered a better question might be how much is he going to use it? If the answer is many times and carrying more than just a few pounds then go for it!

Not robust

Good design but suspect quality. Both straps at the back holding the top pocket (lid) broke during third trip.

Very nice Pack!

I picked this pack up for my 7 year old and, even though we shouldn't have been, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality, fit, and compressibility. This pack really falls right in line with the rest of the gear made by Osprey. It doesn't necessarily adjust to a huge number of different sized torso's but it adjusts plenty for what you'd need to do with a young'en.

I think this pack would work for adults i'm 14 and i am 5,5 so it should work. on the inside top flap it has a little kiddish packing list but that doesnt bother me.

Good Kids Pack

This is a very adjustable pack that was quite comfortable for my 11 year old son. I like the integrated rain cover and helpful hints on the inside if the child is separated. We had tried a small lightweight adult pack, and although it fit, it was not as comfortable. I would only want to change the weight of the pack, as 4+ pounds cuts into a small load that a child can comfortably carry. Much better than other vendor child offerings on flexibility though!

Excellent Pack

This is an easily adjustable pack that comfortably holds all of my sons gear for our outdoor adventures. It is well organized with plenty of pockets and I really like the integrated rain cover so he can't loose it. Great Pack!
