Designed for fishing addicts like yourself.

Built by anglers who fish on their way home from work, anglers who tie blood knots in their sleep, and anglers with sunglass-shaped tan lines, the all new and improved Orvis Helios 2 4-Piece Fly Rod is a featherlight war club that defies the laws of physics and has the backbone of an I-beam. Available in both freshwater and saltwater applications, the Helios 2 is lighter in hand and 20% stronger than any rod Orvis has ever developed. Made by hand in Manchester, Vermont, the Helios 2 transitions energy directly from your brain to the the fly and casts with the precision of a laser pointer.

Its all-new tapers are fine-tuned to transfer energy along a smoother curve in order to provide unrivaled tracking, accuracy, and additional lifting power while maintaining tippet protection. Designed with ESP technology integrated into the tip, the Helios 2's impact strength is 100% stronger, the dampening has increased, and the swing weight has been reduced by 20% from the original Helios. Striking midnight blue blanks, accenting wraps, crushproof REC Recoil guides, REC California buckeye burl freshwater reel seats, REC woven graphite saltwater reel seats, black nickel skeletons, super-grade cork handles, and a UV-inhibiting paint coating round out this quality rod's fine features.

Orvis knows anglers have different flex preferences, so they developed the Helios 2 with a mid flex or flex tip depending on your action preference. Mid flex rods provide superb performance over a wide range of conditions, suit a wide range of casting styles, supply a sweet combination of butt strength for fighting fish, have a medium flex for casting ease, ensure tippet protection, and are ideal for the angler who needs one fly rod for a variety of conditions. Tip flex rods consist of a light tip for a light-in-the-hand feel, help the caster maximize line speed, suit casters with quicker, shorter fly casting strokes, and feature a strong butt section (in upper line weights) for fish-fighting.

    Even Better Than the Helios

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Helios 2 improves on the original Helios with less rigidity and a more flexible tip. Without losing any of its casting precision or power, the Helios 2 keeps the same lightweight design and feel of the Helios. I lose fewer fish with this rod given the more flexible tip which is just built to land bigger fish on lighter tippets. Great steelhead and big trout rod. Compare to the Sage One!

A fly rod for a verity of conditions.

ideal for the angler who needs one fly rod for a variety of conditions. I'm pretty new to fly fishing. I've got a few family members and friends that are into it. I'm just getting started. They recommended that I get this fly rod because of its versatility. I've not had it out yet I'm just gearing up for the spring season. But I can't wait to get out their and crack a few beers and catch some fish.

      So Good

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've got the 5 wt H2 and use it as my main trout rod. As a tip flex, it's got the power to throw some good sized streamers, which it does well even on bigger mid to bigger sized rivers.

But I think where it really shines is the more delicate presentations with shorter casts. For a 5wt tip flex, it's remarkably accurate and pretty soft. It won't match the soft presentation of a slow action specialist - but it's accuracy is incredible.

It's the lightest rod I've ever owned, which is great for a long day of casting. My hand doesn't get tired or cramped, no matter how long I'm out there.

Craftsmanship seems to be typical of Orvis' quality and the cork is so smooth and amazing. It feels great in your hand. Plus, you gotta love the carbon rod tube - it makes the whole package so light if you're hiking to a remote water.

      Room for improvement?

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Maybe, but I don't know how.

I have two (5wt and 7wt) ZG Helios rods (the predecessor and rumored unbeatable award winner from Orvis). I was skeptical that they could do better. I now have two Helios 2 rods also (6wt and 8wt).While there are differences between the ZG Helios and H2 rods, it's all for the better. Lighter in hand, and stronger (well, I did break my 6wt two times but Orvis fixed them in a jiff), the "upgrade" was worth it. These rods can pickup a lot of line and get it right back out quickly. Both my rods are tip flex (to throw big streamers for trout and big wind resistance flies for bass), and while a little 'soft' compared to the ZG Helios rods, they have a lot of muscle and can accurately bomb out the big flies. I regret in no way the money paid for any of the high end Orvis rods--strong, light and warranted for 25 years, what's there to regret?

When you're pounding the banks with articulated streamers (peanut envys, game changer, sex dungeons) and big bass flies, you appreciate the fact you're using one of the lightest and strongest rods in the world.

I have several other rods but I consider the H2 rods my go to. If you fish a lot, get the best you can.

      dream come true

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've wanted to catch a golden dorado for so long! It wouldn't have been possible without my amigo Federico! Yeee hooo! Casare! STOKED.

      Precision....

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

my fly rod progression over the last 12 years has gone from $25 piece of sh*t wal-mart jobs to these high quality Helios 2 rods. I've owned rods at every price point in between, and for that reason I feel like I can really appreciate the craftsmanship and performance of the H2. Backed by an incredible warranty program, you can be sure that you'll get a lifetime of use from an Orvis fly rod. When I first started using them I was instantly blown away by the accuracy and lightweight feel. I've been able to cast more precise than ever before and I'm positive its because of the rod. Recently, I spent a few weeks with my brother in the Bolivian amazon and we were lucky to have an 8,9, and10wt H2 rod along to cast huge flies all day long.

      Precision....
