The kayak that travels in a box.

The Bay Kayak from Oru Kayak really is unlike any other kayak, with its folding, rigid design and single-seam construction. You can haul your Bay Kayak in the trunk of a standard car, then unfold it and assemble it right when you get to the water. Durable, double-layered marine-grade polypropylene makes up the body of the kayak and also folds to form the carrying box itself. A pair of bulkheads and a reinforced cockpit add durability and rigidity for smooth on-water paddling. A comfortable foam seat has a fully adjustable backrest and the footrests are fully adjustable as well, letting you dial in a great fit each time. Rubber deck straps let you keep an extra layer close. Conveniently, the Bay fits most standard spray skirts.

    A Must Try!!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I wasn’t sure what to think when first trying this Kayak out but first impression was amazing. As soon as you start to unfold the kayak everything comes together. It took me about 7 minutes to assemble without any instructions and never seeing it done. Second impression was walking it to the water. This thing is so light weight. Its easily half the weight of other 12ft kayaks. But does it hold up when sitting in it and paddling? It does! The ORU holds up great. When in the water you would never guess that this product was folded up into a luggage size carrying case. Third Impression; comfort, I think the guys over at Oru have covered every angle when producing a sturdy/reliable product and they most certainly didn’t miss the mark on comfort. I can hang out in one of these kayaks all day. I am 6 ft tall and 200 lbs and I have no reservations about using the bay kayak -12ft.

Fun factor- People are super intrigued when they see you putting one of these together. everyone in sight watches and asks about it. Always captivated.

Most importantly – Storage; its best quality. Not only will these kayaks fit in any storage area at home, I think what makes it more valuable is storage on the road. You can strap just about any kayak on the top of your car and travel in comfort but when out on a weekend adventure its really tough to secure kayaks strapped to the top of your car. Not the case with the Oru kayak. You can lock these in your car when going on a hike or whatever else you have planned. It’s a great feeling to not worry about your gear when you are trying to enjoy other parts of your trip.

    I am sold on Oru

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was sceptical, everyone has been sceptical about this boat. After taking it out to the lake for the past few weeks I am completely sold on this vessel. After assembling it and disassembling one time I was able to put the boat together and break it down in around 10 minutes on each end. If you get the sequence down in the right order you could cut it down to 5 minutes easily. After a few setups and breakdowns on the Oru that I have my hands on you can tell the boat is starting to get some memory built up in the polypropylene and it folds and unfolds naturally.

This kayak only being 26lbs. makes for an effortless paddling day and if you want to go at a fast clip you will go fast. The boat tracks insanely well and is a breeze to travel some miles. The sturdy construction of the boat makes all of this possible. When the boat is in kayak mode it is very impressive how rigid the hull feels. The Oru is a touring vessel and can feel a little tippy when leaning to one side or the other. With a low seating position and a low center of gravity, while in motion this boat is very stable. The cockpit of the boat is roomy and with the foot brace it has a comfortable feel.

    Let's talk about this boat.
