The Ortovox Powder Rider II Pack fits all the pre-requisites for a technical backcountry pack into a low-profile, chairlift-friendly design. Ideal for resort-accessed sidecountry and off-piste skiing, the Powder Rider II has designated pockets for your shovel and probe as well as convenient back access that comes in handy when you need to get to your gear in a hurry. This pack also features an ice axe loop for when you find yourself bootpacking steep, exposed slopes on your way to the goods. Hydration compatibility lets you drink on the go while waterproof zippers keep your extra gloves dry.

Bottom Line: When the resort is tracked, strap on the Ortovox Powder Rider II Pack and go get freshies till the sun goes down.

Nice small pack

I disagree with the other review from 2yrs ago. I didn't buy it to carry ski/snowboards or at the moment no backcountry use. I wanted a pack smaller then my REI 30L daypack to hold a small bit of water, wallet, keys, multitool, extra gloves and warmth layer. The material seems fairly durable. Big zip opens the back panel for main area for water bladder and warmth layer storage, outside storage is good for radio, tool, keys, etc. I am 6,1 220lbs and it fits fine over my Proshell. It is a simple design without a bunch of extras. I do wish the belt wrapped around a bit more so I could get to my camera pocket easier. Maybe if I lost 30lbs that could help but will end up not using them for camera.
Overall I am happy with it, small, slim , just enough space for small amount of gear. Like the built in whistle. Not sure what changes were made in the new version but at half off I didn't really care to much. For the price paid I like, full retail price I would have looked at other options maybe.

Disappointing

This bag does NOT have ski carry of any kind, despite the description, and it also does not have a frame (O-Flex or whatever). You can figure that out from Ortovox's website, although I learned the hard way. It is also very lightly constructed and feels like it would break easily.

You can see from looking at it that it doesn't carry skis. It's a small bag with no straps for skis. My grocery bag doesn't carry skis either. It's a convenient hydration and stash bag. There is no need for a frame.
