Utility for the backcountry.
Whether you’re building a snow barricade or tearing one down, you can’t go wrong with the Ortovox Kodiak Shovel. The rugged, tempered aluminum Kodiak features a telescoping handle so you get more leverage when you dig, yet it’ll fit neatly in your pack. You can manipulate both the Kodiak’s blade and the handle to create a hatchet for caving.

If you use a shovel on a regular basis, this is the one to get.

Is the shaft's grip area "sanded" or covered with polymer wrap as depicted in the image?
George,
So those pictures are renderings (the plastic at the top handle is far too shinny).
The grip area on the shaft is going to be a polymer wrap.
