Description

A go-anywhere snow shovel.

The Ortovox Beast Snow Shovel is an all-around dependable shovel for any snow conditions, from powder to solidified chunder. A resilient oval aluminum shaft and blade stand up to the toughest tasks, and a sanded handle offers an excellent, glove-friendly grip. A slightly scooped blade maximizes shoveling capacity and slips easily into your pack. The assembled shovel is small enough to put inside your pack in one piece, and the handle telescopes to a longer length for more efficient digging.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I love the green, its light weight and quite solid. However, I bought it without ever handling one and the first thing I noticed was how awkward the T-grip was at the end of the handle. I also have a Black Diamond shovel and the grip fits much more naturally into the palm of my hand.

I got this shovel to replace my old Voile Telepack after my backcountry gear was stolen. It definitely gets the job done and the grip tape on the shaft is definitely a plus when you are moving a lot of snow. The blade could be slightly larger in my opinion, but all in all it is a great shovel.

Can you separate the handle from the blade for easier packing? Seems like a standard feature for avy shovels, but I don't see a locking button in the photo...

It does come off. Very easily too, and locks in great. Just bought this thing and it's sick. extends longer than most shovels, packs down smaller and has a nice big blade. Solid shovel
