This shovel is a beast!
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
This shovel is great! It is lightweight and designed well. I love how far out the handle extends making for easy shoveling. It is lightweight and strong. I have not used the saw tool, but it seems useful. I have used it mostly for expedition climbing and carry it for my BC skiing pursuits.
Best Designed Shovel Ever

Lightweight yet super strong. Heavy duty sharp blade, extendable and easy to use handle and the bonus saw which although isn't great for digging pits, is immaculate for cutting the occasional tree that needs to be lit for a fire or pushed out the way of our snowmobile pinned against it. Love it.
Great shovel

I had the Ortovox Beast and then I upgraded to the Beast with the saw at the end of last season. As far as a saw/shovel combo goes, this one is great. The saw is smaller than most snow saws that you purchase on their own, but it is very convenient to have a saw that stows in the handle of the shovel. They upgraded the lower grip this year so that it is a polymer grip instead of the grip tape/sandpaper one from last year. This is definitely nice if you happen to be wearing liner gloves or no gloves at all as it decreases the wear and tear on your gloves or hands.
Will this shovel fit the Dakine ABS 25L pack? In the outer pocket? Trying to figure out the size to the dakine shovel.
It would be nice to have specs in metric system some day...
I know Google can convert it for me, but that's not the point
Agreed! Unfortunately, America hasn't quite fully caught on to metric! Also, the massive amount of content we upload on a daily basis makes it challenging to include all the details, especially in multiple measurement standards. Sorry for the hassle! Hit up a gearhead on live chat or give us a call if you have any questions!
How long is the blade on the saw, and does it have cm markers?
Hey Robby. The blade is 8.5'' and does not have any measurement markers on it. It's a great little saw for basic needs. Or, I suggest the Ortovox Snow Saw if you're looking to do more technical snow science. Enjoy!
What is the packing size?
What is the packing size?
Zambranojl,
The assembled length and blade dimensions of the Ortovox Beast Saw Shovel are already listed above, but you can add to that a packed length of 17".
I just wanted to know what size it collapses to - as I am buying a new bag as well (oakley mad 20L)
