    Far from light

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am curious to know what other probes whitezombi has used, because this thing is far from light. They do always say, the lighter you go the more fragile it gets though and I can say that this is one bomber and durable probe. Like in my other review where I relate probes to people, this one is definitely big and tall. It is long, which actually makes it tough to fit into most backpack tool compartments. It does fit in the Black Diamond Outlaw Avalung as well as the 2016 BCA Tech 27 tool pocket. It is a very tight fit, but it does clear the zipper. This is the kind of probe you'd have as a working forecaster or ski patrol.. It is durable enough and long enough for some of the deepest snow packs around, and is long enough in the rare case you are on scene for a D4 or D5 slide where the debris piles are deep and you need a 10 1/2 foot probe. In most cases, this guy gets left in the truck due to the size and weight, but if you are worried about not having a probe long enough or possibly breaking your shorter one, then this is the one you need. Oh, if you need the markings every cm, this probe does NOT have that. The markings are every 5 cm.

    Solid probe, but heavy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I guess reviews are different for everyone. Whitezombie calls the probe super light, but I feel it's like a brick in my pack. But aluminum vs carbon- if you want lighter go carbon. This probe is durable, very easy to assemble and I love the T-handle tightener. It makes assembling the probe a snap with gloves on. The markings are etched on the side and the ends are tapered male/female so they slide together nicely when pulling the cable in a hurry.

If you want a solid, durable and colorful probe- get this one. If you're a weight weeny, look elsewhere.

    Super light!

I bought this probe to go with my Ortovox shovel and it is top notch. While thankfully I haven't had to use it in a real emergency yet, I have tried it out in the snow. The quick assembly systems really is quick: just throw, pull the cord and voila! Different colored sections help distinguish just how deep your buddy is under the snow, which is useful. Oh, and it's really light considering how long it is. The only thing is that a 3.20m probe is probably overkill, so if you want something cheaper, go for a 2.80m.
