Why We Like The Trunk Bag RC
Perfect for everything from a picnic trip to the park to an adventure day with the family, the Trunk Bag RC is what we need for carrying our essentials and then some. It offers a 12-liter payload with a hook-and-loop roll closure that also serves as a carrying handle, and it fits on nearly any bike rack with a width of 60- to 160-millimeters. We like how easy it is to clip on and secure this bike bag, and we appreciate the shoulder strap that makes it easy to carry around when we step away from our ride.

Fatal flaw
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This bag is great except for one fatal flaw. FIrst, the good... The mounting mechanism is fantastic and the construction quality is superb. However, the Velcro closure system just doesn't work. The top rolls closed then has a small Velcro attachment. The issue is that if the pack is not full the top area sags down and the Velcro does not stay attached. The bag essentially assumes that it will be packed to a single level of fullness. I love Ortlieb and the Backroller panniers are incredible. This bag is the one-off Ortlieb dud. It should have cinch closures like the panniers. I used this bag for a 6+ day, self-supported 360 Mile trip mostly along the C&O Canal Towpath and GAP Trail.

Impressive bag
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Just fit this to my rear rack. Every time I install or use an Ortlieb product, I am so impressed with the design and build. Putting the bag on the rack and getting it off is so easy I keep asking myself, "Is that all there is to do?" Same as with their panniers: I keep thinking I need to do something else to secure them, but I don't. That's Ortlieb WAD (working as designed). And no bother with rain covers. Plus it has a quick access pocket on the outside. Good place to stash a cell phone if it starts pouring on you. Pricey compared to others, but you get what you pay for.
