Cutting lines through BC pine forests, JP Auclair and his Orage Retallack Co-Lab Jacket are all you see bobbing in and out of the exploding snow of his turns. The 3-Ply Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric provides ultimate snow protection while JP laps pillowy lines. And with waterproof zippers and fully taped seams, he stays dry—even as he skis into a rain shower on the way back to the world-famous Canadian lodge.
- World-renowned Gore-Tex Pro Shell 3L fabric keeps you dry in brutal, high-alpine storms and allows evaporating sweat to pass through the waterproof breathable membrane
- Adjustable hood, removable powder skirt, and wrist gaiters seal out the deepest snow as you choke your way through life-changing turns
- Off-set front zipper reduces zipped-chin sores and pulled beard hair
- A fleece lining provides a bit of insulation for the summit chair
- A hydration pocket and tube port built into the jacket allow the contents of your hydration pack (not included) to stay liquid and accessible
- Underarm zip vents expel unwanted heat while you boot or skin up a woody ridge
- The silicon-coated shoulders won’t shred as you bushwhack to find the next stash
- Hide behind the fleece-lined collar when the wind blows the snowy trees clean
- The audio pocket, wrist pass pocket, and mesh goggle pocket (with chamois cloth) store your must-haves
Bottom Line: Supremo weather protection for any and all mountain conditions.

The Orage JP Auclair is a pretty slick looking jacket with a good number of external of pockets that are strategically placed. I especially like the idea of the front right pocket (or trail map pocket) with velcro'd hood. Sometimes, you just want a storage place without the hassle of having to open up a zipper. This front pocket is made with an additional layer of the Gore-Tex soft shell, which is pretty cool. The fit is indeed regular; not too slim fitting or loose fitting. I'm 5'11, 175lbs, with 38.5" chest, and the medium fits me pretty comfortably without being too baggy. I have a little wider shoulder, so it's a little snug there, which accentuates the feeling of extra room around my waist (~31"). The fleece lining makes the jacket a bit thicker & heavier than a traditional technical shell. In the end, it gets the job done and you look pretty decent wearing it whether you're on or off the piste.
Now why only 3 stars then? Couple of reasons: A - several discrepancies from the product description - the shell is Gore-Tex soft, NOT Pro, the jacket does NOT have internal media pocket & the hydration pocket. B - The wrist gaiter is a pain in the butt if you have large hands (I wear size 10 Hestra's); the fabric that sits between the forefinger and thumb feels tight once you put on your gloves (so I just decide not to use the gaiter by not using the "thumb hole"). C - The aforementioned thickness and heaviness of the jacket (due to the fleece lining) engenders a noticeable difference in ease of arm movements compared to my Arc'teryx Sidewinder.

Since Backcountry never replied, I took the matter to Orage directly. Below is their reply. Backcountry should consider revising the product description (and perhaps check them for validity in the future).
From Orage:
"We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused . In the original design of this jacket we had these 2 features, then when it was time to actually mass-produce this jacket the factory encountered some difficulties related to the manufacturing of these features. Therefore the production team decided to make slight modification to the design so they could produce the garment with the modifications. Unfortunately we didn't make the change on the advertisement of the jacket Catalogue, Hang tags and internet."
