You don't want to paddle a kayak the size of a gargantuan barge across the lake or along the shore. Hop into the Ocean Kayak Scrambler Kayak and enjoy a smooth, sturdy boat that doesn't take a mile to turn. The Scrambler Kayak's sit-on-top design makes it easy to get in and out of, and multiple molded foot rests mean you and your taller or shorter buddies can take turns comfortably paddling this Ocean Kayak. Bungees across the stern and bow storage wells secure a cooler and dry bag.

Bottom Line: Get stability and turning ability with Ocean Kayak's Scrambler sit-on-top kayak.

The description of this boat says "beginner to intermediate" No way, Jose! I've spent a bit of time in rented sit inside kayaks on both smooth and choppy lakes with water skiers, and lots of canoe time on lakes and class I and Class II rivers, so i am a beginner. When i saw the rounded bottom of my new boat my heart sank. Sure enough, my teenage daughter (who has a little bit of experience too) flipped her boat getting in. We were in the water less than five minutes when an unexpected breeze suddenly flipped me over. These are *NOT* beginner boats, no way. I also don't like the seat. Though it is a sitontop, i think they could have formed it so the rider sits a bit deeper and closser to the water. i feel like i'm in a cabin cruiser when i'm on it, not like a kayak at all. the hardware along the gunwales for attaching optional gear is so chintzy and has such tiny openings that their usefulness is really limited, also their attachment to the hull looks so flimmsy that i'd be afraid if i had to depend on them for much of anything. I just wanted a beginners boat I'm really disappointed and i feel i was really mislead by the "beginner to intermediate" description.

Always try out a boat before you buy it. Rent from an outfitter for a day and try as many different styles as they let you. I agree that the boat design could allow the rider to sit closet to the water, and I feel at times my hips are quite snug with the sides of the boat. I've had this kayak for eight months and used it in all sorts of water conditions, even in unexpected rapids. I have never tipped. I had never used a kayak before buying this one. Unfortunately, I would say your tipping problems are from user error.

you can buy it with the seat on some websites, or purchase the seat separately for $90- 100 on others. It's incredibly comfortable, so don't go without it.

An SUV for paddling

Great boat. I the "high end" version of this boat, has fishing pole holders and a big dry hatch up front. This is a great rec boat, especially if you like to take a lot of stuff with you. The back storage area easily holds a good sized cooler PLUS a few other things, you have the front storage area and it's as stable as any boat can be. I like to swim a lot and it's very easy for me to just hop of the boat in the middle of a lake and climb back on. I normally carry a cooler, a gas grill (strapped on the front) and lots of gear inside the hull, no dry bag necessary. I love it and use it MUCH more often than my 12 ft sit in rec boat, it's much more versatile.
