When you dart around in the ocean and surf the waves like a paddle maniac, it’s nice to have some support. Back support, that is. While many surf sit-on-top kayaks leave your back and butt to fend for themselves, the Ocean Kayak Mysto Sit-On-Top Kayak comes with a Comfort Plus seat back. The Mysto has a sleek, stable hull with a skeg for quick, agile turns. Clip the padded seat back to this kayak’s deck rigging, adjust the straps to your liking, and shove off into the salt water.
Bottom Line: A surf kayak your back will actually like.
A skeg is kind of like a small keel near the stern of your kayak. Not quite a rudder (which pivots), your skeg helps to keep your kayak tracking straight. Helps beginner paddlers, like me, to keep going straight.
I love this feature and thanks for ther prompt response to my first ever question. Next question. In the pictures of these kayaks only the "Sunrise" color shows eyelets along the bow to tie down gear or sun screen etc. Is that accurate? The other colors do not show this feature and these eyelets are definately important to me. Thank you, Mike Morgan
I own 2 Mystos. Recently I rented a Frenzy in Florida, and tried it for a few hours. The Mysto is much nicer. They are about the same weight, 43 lbs. The Mysto is 9 inches longer. Cost is about equal since the Mysto comes with a seat, and you would want to buy one anyway for the Frenzy. The Mysto is faster, maneuvers better. It has 2 side handles, front and back handle and also a paddle keeper thing to easily attach your paddle to. The Frenzy has front and back handle only. The side handles on the Mysto are also convenient to put your cable through to lock it up. I was initially concerned about leg room, as I am 6'3", but they were both fine. Both easy to pick up and load on your car. Totally safe kayaks- they are bobbers. But --the Mysto is the better way to go.
You mentioned concerns about legroom. I am 5'11" and have had problems with my Mysto because of insufficieint legroom. Unable to sufficiently stretch my legs and get them out of the way for efficient paddling. Otherwise no complaints about the boat

This looks pretty cool and appropriate for what I want to do but would really like some input. Brand new to sport, used The Ocean Kayak (don't know which one but had the attachable seat with forward and rear storage - easily 10 feet long I would guess. I used it in the Sea of Cortez, had a blast - it handles chop well. I am 72 inches and 200 pounds with a 44-46 chest and fairly good shape, I did notice that not having a seat setup was hard on the back , whereas with the seat was great! I would like to continue ocean, sea kayaking. I have read that longer kayaks travel faster and can be stable as well. I appreciate the help, thanks!
Help! I am trying to find the best sit-on-top kayak option for me. I tried ocean kayaking for the first time last summer and am hooked, but am only 5 feet tall and need to be able to load and unload the kayak by myself. I love the idea of surfing the waves, and would love for my kids to able to try as well. Deciding between the yak board, Mysto or Frenzy, but am concerned the latter two are too big. Any other small, 8 foot kayaks out there that are any good?
This would be an excellent kayak for a beginner. It handles waves extremely well (also functions well on flat water). The molded-in keel gives support while allowing tremendous handling. Not too long, heavy, or pricey makes it a great purchase!
