- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I returned this item because the zipper loop broke off the first time I opened it. I really liked the look of it and it could fit a kitchen sink, but I was very disappointed that something that cost so much broke in the first few minutes.

Nice Bag, few gripes

I've had this bag for several years now. I bought it on a whim at the Oakley store and for the most part I've been happy with it. It's very high quality, as you would expect from Oakley, and has weathered several multi-country excursions. My one grip is that I don't find all the metal parts on the outside to be very functional. They look cool, but generally they just weigh the bag down. I can fit a huge laptop in the bag and enough clothes/shoes to last several days. The top part is great for carrying items like a cell phone and sunglasses. The dry bag on the bottom is also nice for carrying wet clothes/shoes in. Overall I'm happy with the bag and I get a lot of compliments on it, but the metal straps and components on the outside have been more of a nuisance than functional. I've scratched my car & motorcycle on more than one occasion throwing this bag around.

Is this bag still small enough to bring on board an airplane? If it is full, will it fit in the overhead compartment?

According to Oakley the dimensions are 14" H x 20" W x 8" D which are inside the generally allowable 14x22x9 requirements. Some smaller planes have different requirements but you should be fine 99% of the time.

So far, a great product. I bought it to fit a Dell M6400 Precision 17" laptop (dimensions: 15.4 x 11 x 1.35). While other websites state that this bag will not hold a laptop this size, It does using the main compartment entry and it seems to be close to max. However, this precludes using the side laptop compartment entry. That is made for a smaller laptop (only reason I gave it 4 vs. 5 stars). the side compartments fit the oversized power adapter for this laptop perfect. More importantly is the comfort. With that heavy laptop even using just one shoulder strap it fits comfortably over your shoulder and back, evenly distributing the weight, and doesn't want to slip off when you move around. One of the most comfortable backpacks I have ever owned. Thanks Oakley for a great product (but make the side laptop entry bigger) and thanks Backcountry.com for the great price and service.

How well does this bag repel water? I have an Oakley Icon backpack and love it except for the fact that it's made mostly with mesh material and doesn't protect against the elements.

This is nylon so it will definitely do better than your previous bag. However it does not have a waterproof coating, so after a decent amount of time in the rain or other elements it will start to soak through.

Keep in mind, this bag does have a Wet Bag on the bottom that should be pretty protective should you need it.

I love this backpack. My husband and I ride motorcycles, It hold everything When we hike it has so many compartments that hold everything, and the silver brackets on the front hold every key alive.
I have even attached my water bottle for easy access. It hold sso much that I put my clothes in for the next day so its the only thing I need to bring in the hotel at night. It does a great job protecting my cell phone on top!! Men, buy it for women. Women just buy it , especially if you love compartments. I would recommend it to everyone.
