Jupiter Sunglasses

Oakley’s mad scientists were charged with bringing back classic style without corrupting modern edginess they took a new approach and created the Jupiter Sunglasses. After melting down healthy doses of electric guitar, comic book villain, and rogue stunt car driver, they forged the lightweight O-Matter frame and polished it off with UV-blocking Plutonite lenses. Despite a few face-melt casualties, the lab crew managed to refine Jupiter’s design with high-definition optics, so the wearer can enjoy a crystal clear view of the unbridled envy in the eyes of bystanders.

Bottom Line: Classical lines and uncompromising style in the face of … melted faces.

Updated classic!

The first pair of Oakley sunglasses I ever had were Frogskins, over the past years we have seen the Frogskin come back as a limited edition. The Jupiter on the other hand are quite similar but considerably more sturdy than the Frogskin. The frame has a bit more curve to fit the face better. Coming in many colors for your own style and even Polarized lenses. I like the retro look as many others do.

Similar to Frogskin

If you liked the Oakley Frogskin sunglasses you are going to love the Jupiter. The Jupiter is even better because it stays tighter around you head so when you are bending down to grab something or tie your shoe, the glasses do not fall off your head. You can play sports in the glasses as well.

I have these in red (and i am a woman with a small frame). THESE are my favorite. I have an issue with the ear pieces touching the sides of my face too tightly causing headaches and these are the first and only pair I have found that work. I'm looking to replace them now because after 3 years i broke them.

Most Oakley men's sunglasses are meant for a wider face(man's face) and a different bridge of the nose. It's hard to say if these would fit your specific face type but I would probably bet that they would not.

Fresh Shades

By:
May 4, 2009

These Shades are fresh. I've had the brown ones, the black ones, and i've now settled on the Red ones with ruby iridium lenses (which backcountry doesn't carry:( ) They have all of the style you crave from the 80's, while still looking new and fresh. Plus they are oakleys so they have their patended HD optics and it really does feel like high def vision. Great glasses over all. I am very satisfied.

How does the fit of these compare to the fit of the Gas Cans?

How does the fit of these compare to the fit of the Gas Cans? I own these and they fit fine on my head, with the occasional slip down the nose a little but no big deal. ..but will the Gas Cans be wearable? i really like em but im worried bout the fit.

The gascans won't just fall down if you're sitting still, but you might have some slippage if you're doing vigorous activity. They aren't really made for that though. They should be fine for day to day activities and will be more or less slippery depending on the finish you get.

Oakley delivers yet again!

By:
August 13, 2010

The Oakley Jupiter sunglasses work really well and have typical Oakley style. Like all Oakley products the Jupiters are high performance. The lenses as well as the frame are durable and are clearly well made. In my opinion, these sunglasses will have the best fit on someone who does not to have too large of a face. The design closely resembles the Oakley Frogskins. I have them in polished black with the black iridium lenses and I do not have one complaint. Oakley continues to impress me with their products.

...before they're relics on ebay

Who knows what Oakley has in store for the Jupiter? For the moment though, it has been discontinued so now's your last chance to swoop up what is arguably the most unique, and best-fitting retro-inspired design they've ever produced.

* yeah, the style may be a little androgynous, but they're still rad as hell. sack up and snag a pair

Got the White/24K Iridium ones, fits my face perfect and looks really good. The 24k iridium lenses are solid for sunny days. I truly love these shades!

My favorite

By:
February 19, 2011

I've got the white with 24k iridium. The gold lens is dark enough so that people can't see your eyes. Its also really great for bright sunny conditions. The Jupiters are similar to the Frogskins, but the plastic frame is thicker and sturdier. Oakley lenses are designed to pop out, rather than in if there is some kind of incident where it would warrant that, so it literally protects your eyes. Well worth the money.

Not my style

By:

Lightweight with cool lenses, but a little large for my face - and the style is for those younger than I, in my opinion (I'm 45). Cool glasses, though.

Meh..

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I usually really like Oakley. I own more Oakley stuff than the average person. However, I don't really like these sunglasses. They are supposed to be an "updated frogskin" but they seriously don't do the Frogskin justice. They have a deeper curve above the eyebrows that make them look more like women's sunglasses than Men's 80's sunglasses. I do like how solid of construction they are, but for $100-$110 I would much rather invest in some frogskins. They are Oakleys though, so their optics are better than any other companies. If you like the way they fit, get them..but for me, they aren't working.

Frogskins Update... Cool in its own right

By: Backcountry.com Employee
March 4, 2009

I have been collecting Frogs since they were re released last year. That being said I had to check these out. This is basically frogskins meet performance with a dab of modern style. The frame looks similar to frogs from the front, but I noticed the lens are slightly less tall and wider. Also, the lens have a slight sphericalness to them. The other main difference here is the arms. They obviously much taller than frogs. I still found them comfortable but these felt a lot more like current oakleys on my face than that 80s cheap feel the frogs have. Overall, they look kind of like Frogs, feel like modern oakley and in many ways shape their own spot in the Oakley line. In retrospective, I don't look at them as replacements for Frogs, but as a cool new frame to have in addition to frogs.

Classic Oakley Style & Function

By: Backcountry.com Employee
August 8, 2010

The Oakley Jupiter sunglass is the classic example of style and function. The glasses are very similar to the Frogskin, but are a bit smaller in the frame. I like the Jupiter better than the Frogskin as I find the O matter frame to be a bit sturdier than it's cousin. All in all multifunctional in purpose and head turning in style. Classic Oakley.

Great Modern Shades

By:
June 6, 2009

These shades are awesome they mix retro with the modern Oakley feel. I bought the transparent red ones with the ruby iridium frames and I love them. These lenses are great on sunny days, but a little to dark for cloudy ones. Buy these and you won't regret it.

MOST rad.

Literally everytime I wear these I get compliments. My favorite are the clear frames with the purple lenses. They are totally mirrored and pop like crazy. They aren't too big either- I have a smaller/medium face and they are perfect. I personally like these better then the frogskins for sure.
