I bought this lens strictly for night riding and it works great! I tried it once on a snowy day and paid the price when the sun came out. I recommend the Prizm lenses for variable light situations.

I've got a couple different lenses for my googles and it's really nice to have the variety. These are super easy to swap out without getting too many fingerprints on them. I do wish they were a little more scratch-resistant, but these are just as good as any other google lenses I've used.

I use the fire iridium lenses for most days - they cover a wide range of light conditions except for totally flat light. I'm comfortable with these on full sun days except for late spring when the sun is really cranking. I use the dark grey lenses for those bright spring days.

For cloudy days, I use the hi intensity yellow, which really help boost contrast when the light gets really flat

I am a Ski Patroller in New Zealand and have a Clear lens for early morning Avalanche control routes and a Dark Gray lens for everything else. The Dark Grey lens is a good all round lens for both dull and bright days. I can also change my air brake lenses 2 to 3 times faster than the other patrollers with the Smith ios

I am an avid snowmobiler and when you can cover a large amount of terrain in a short period of time, then adapting to conditions is key. Lately I see more flat light than usual and have tried every combination of lens Oakley makes (I am not exaggerating here). H.I. persimmon is my favorite for flat light and low light condtions since it gives great contrast despite conditions. I normally use Fire Iridium for the brightest of days, and Pink Iridium can suited for bright or medium bright days.



Keep in mind that I wear an MX helmet so it does have a visor to block light coming from the sky so keep this in mind if you are wearing a ski helmet. In my backpack I carry the following lenses at all times:



H.I Persimmon (most used lens in my arsenal)

H.I Yellow (use for night riding)

Fire Iridium (use for Bright days)

Pink Iridium (use for medium to bright days)



I hear Emerald is popular too, but not much experience with this one..... yet

I've learned to swap the lenses with the goggles still on my face. Great backcountry option to have multiple lenses when goggles often fog with the sweat of hiking or touring.

I love the Airbrake goggle and stocking up on the replaceable lenses has made it easy to swap when things get less than clear.

Just got the Dark Grey Airbrake Replacement lens - it's a perfect lens for bright days on the mountain. I've always liked Oakley's Fire Iridium for bright days and had heard good things about the Dark Grey recently, so I wanted to try it out. While the Dark Grey and Fire Iridium lenses have similar light transmission rates (10% and 16% respectively), they definitely put a slightly different spin on things as their tinting and contrast differs. In my experience so far, the Dark Grey is best suited for the brightest days of the season - they do a great job of cutting glare and allowing your eyes to relax. As their title suggests, these lenses are dark - think limo tint. Even though the dark grey doesn't have an iridium mirror, it's virtually impossible to see the eyes of the person wearing them. When taken out in med-bright to overcast days, the Dark Grey lenses aren't necessarily the best tool for the job, but they'll get you where you want to go. This, in my opinion is what differentiates the Dark Grey from the Fire Iridium - the Fire Iridium seem to handle variable light conditions with more ease - they let in a bit more light, so that's understandable.
