High Intensity Yellow
- Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this lens strictly for night riding and it works great! I tried it once on a snowy day and paid the price when the sun came out. I recommend the Prizm lenses for variable light situations.
Clear lens
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
Works great for all the night riding!
Great options for varying light
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I've got a couple different lenses for my googles and it's really nice to have the variety. These are super easy to swap out without getting too many fingerprints on them. I do wish they were a little more scratch-resistant, but these are just as good as any other google lenses I've used.
I use the fire iridium lenses for most days - they cover a wide range of light conditions except for totally flat light. I'm comfortable with these on full sun days except for late spring when the sun is really cranking. I use the dark grey lenses for those bright spring days.
For cloudy days, I use the hi intensity yellow, which really help boost contrast when the light gets really flat
Best lenses out
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I am a Ski Patroller in New Zealand and have a Clear lens for early morning Avalanche control routes and a Dark Gray lens for everything else. The Dark Grey lens is a good all round lens for both dull and bright days. I can also change my air brake lenses 2 to 3 times faster than the other patrollers with the Smith ios
Good protection from freezing beer.
Hopefully this helps people with lenses

I am an avid snowmobiler and when you can cover a large amount of terrain in a short period of time, then adapting to conditions is key. Lately I see more flat light than usual and have tried every combination of lens Oakley makes (I am not exaggerating here). H.I. persimmon is my favorite for flat light and low light condtions since it gives great contrast despite conditions. I normally use Fire Iridium for the brightest of days, and Pink Iridium can suited for bright or medium bright days.
Keep in mind that I wear an MX helmet so it does have a visor to block light coming from the sky so keep this in mind if you are wearing a ski helmet. In my backpack I carry the following lenses at all times:
H.I Persimmon (most used lens in my arsenal)
H.I Yellow (use for night riding)
Fire Iridium (use for Bright days)
Pink Iridium (use for medium to bright days)
I hear Emerald is popular too, but not much experience with this one..... yet
Hot Swap.
I've learned to swap the lenses with the goggles still on my face. Great backcountry option to have multiple lenses when goggles often fog with the sweat of hiking or touring.
Super simple to swap
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I love the Airbrake goggle and stocking up on the replaceable lenses has made it easy to swap when things get less than clear.
Dark Grey Airbrake Lenses - Perfect for Bright Days
Just got the Dark Grey Airbrake Replacement lens - it's a perfect lens for bright days on the mountain. I've always liked Oakley's Fire Iridium for bright days and had heard good things about the Dark Grey recently, so I wanted to try it out. While the Dark Grey and Fire Iridium lenses have similar light transmission rates (10% and 16% respectively), they definitely put a slightly different spin on things as their tinting and contrast differs. In my experience so far, the Dark Grey is best suited for the brightest days of the season - they do a great job of cutting glare and allowing your eyes to relax. As their title suggests, these lenses are dark - think limo tint. Even though the dark grey doesn't have an iridium mirror, it's virtually impossible to see the eyes of the person wearing them. When taken out in med-bright to overcast days, the Dark Grey lenses aren't necessarily the best tool for the job, but they'll get you where you want to go. This, in my opinion is what differentiates the Dark Grey from the Fire Iridium - the Fire Iridium seem to handle variable light conditions with more ease - they let in a bit more light, so that's understandable. If you want to learn more about the different Oakley replacement lens light transmission rates, just click the "Size?" link below the "select options" dropdown menu at the top right of the page.
Hi, I've got H.I Persimmon which is a great lens for cloudy days. I need additional lens for snow/dark days. Which lens do you reccomend?
Well, went for the Prizm Rose lens and a Clear lens.
Either the blue, jade, or black iridium lenses would work. I use the jades on sunny days. Love them!
Just wondering what's the light transmission...
Just wondering what's the light transmission rate for this rose color lens? Is this rose color good for me to use at night?
Fire Iridium will not work for night riding at all. The lens tint is much too dark. Go with H.I yellow or clear
Are these interchangeable with the MX...
Are these interchangeable with the MX frames?
Hey Mic,
I don't believe these will work with the MotoCross frame, but I will try to grab an more concrete answer from Oakley's Customer Service for you.
Hey Mic,
Just heard back, this is what Oakley had to say...
"Although these items look very similar they are very different. These two items are not compatible with each other."
Hope that helps : )
Thanks :)

whats the best color repl lens for cloudy days
low light conditions go with a yellow lens. if you need an all around everyday lens get something in the persimmon range.
The H.I. Persimmon is my favorite for flat light/cloudy days. It never lets me down
Haven't tried out the H.I. Persimmon, I be they're pretty great too, but I've been going with H.I. Yellow. They are magnificent. I even wear them for night riding at Keystone where the lighting is - shall we say - suspect.
The new Oakley Prizm Rose is the ultimate lens for low light days. Had been a fan of the H.I. Yellow, but the Prizm's are the real deal!
Low Light day's (been alot of those this winter where I live ) and I simploy love the Prizm Rose.
Do they make a photochromic replacement...
Do they make a photochromic replacement lense for the airbrake?
Hey, as far as I know Oakley doesn't make ANY photochromatic snow lenses...
I find having a yellow and permission lens quiver works better than the photo-chromatic solutions I have used. Much happier with multiple airbrake lenses than a single photo-chromatic lens
