The Nuun Multi Flavor 4 Pack gives you options: Choose tri berry, citrus fruit, lemon lime, or kona cola for your H2O. The subtly flavored tablets dissolve in your water and provide you with electrolytes for when your hiking, climbing, running, biking, or just hanging out. Since you don't need sugar to hydrate, Nuun left the sticky stuff out of its tablets. Each lightweight tube contains 12 tablets, which provides 6 quarts of electrolyte-rich water, so you have no excuse for not taking a tube with you into the backcountry.
Bottom Line: Quit the sugar-laced powders and neon drinks.
I ordered a bunch of these tubes, and they are the best energy drink I've had! Nothing tops water, but it's nice to get some electrolytes in too, and these are not too sweet, but fizzy - which is totally awesome!
Problem is, I left them in a bear box at Big Pine trailhead in the Eastern Sierra, and never saw them again... along with my trail runners and a jar of Nutella! Let me know if you see them! ;)
Wanted to love these for their uber-convenience while backpacking and for the reasons every other reviewer seems to love them, but I just didn't. Something about the taste didn't sit right with me, and unfortunately it was the only thing I brought along, so I drank water for the whole backpacking trip, and my buddies didn't want them either. I'll give it four stars, as is seems to do what it's supposed to do, I just didn't care for the taste.

why do I know this is a legitimate product? I survived 8 days of severe salmonella poisoning when I lived in Russia- 2 days away from death. After 3 days in the western clinic (Canadian and British doctors) they handed me two things: over a months worth of effervescent tablets. one of them was calcium, the other was magnesium. This is the only hydration product with the vitals. Also don't waste your money on Endurox, Accelerade, or Hammer, etc. Don't get caught up in all the post-recovery hype. My nutrition professor shouts these are a waste of money. She's an avid cyclist too. The best post-recovery drink is CHOCOLATE MILK!! Ask a real doctor if you don't believe me. All the non-biased university research indicates that the window for post-recovery is 4 hours or so after a workout.
Everything is true that is stated in all these other reviews. It's great stuff and works well. I've never had any cramping problems, etc... The tablet format is the best, easiest way to carry your electrolytes with you.
In order to get nuun into tablet form and make it the right amount of sweet they had to use sorbitol (think sugerfree gum or apple juice). Some people mentioned a light carbonation. What they tasted is the sorbitol effect and not carbonation.
When first using nuun it might take a while for your body to get used to the sorbitol. Sorbitol is used as a laxative as it gathers water into your large intestine thus inducing bowel movements. So that burping, bloated feeling you get when you try out nuun hopefully will pass as you get more accustomed to it. Just stay close to a bathroom during your workouts & avoid that hip pack in the mean time. Enjoy!!!
You know that feeling where you've finished your third Nalgene and you're STILL not satisfied on a long, hot day? Yeah, been there. A lot. Since I have your attention, I'm gonna tell you now: grab this pack, even if you're not sure if they'll work.
Without repeating much of what's been said here (I agree with the versatility, convenience, and effectiveness of the tablets themselves) this package is a great way to experiment with the different flavors Nuun offers while providing enough tablets to test they're effectiveness for yourself, all this without investing more than $25.
The tubes are also perfectly sized for use as re-usable quarter rolls!
I've known about nuun for a long time now, but because sports drinks have always upset my stomach while training and racing, I never tried them. Until I was stuck in the Where's Karl? RV with Karl Meltzer, Matt Hart and Senior during Karl's Appalachian Trail speed record attempt this summer. Karl and Matt drank nuun instead of plain water always. The standard dialogue at each crew stop was: "How much water do you want in your pack? How many tabs of nuun?" I decided to give it a try. Besides being super convenient and easy to manage (you don't have to deal with mixing messy powders or diluting syrupy drinks), they're not too sweet and they are absolutely great for electrolyte dosage. Plus, they don't upset my stomach. For the first time ever, I'm able to get the electrolytes that I need in a drink. That's huge. I'm a big fan of the tri-berry. It's my first choice and I rarely drink anything else. Lemon+Lime and Citrus Fruit are good too. But Cola? Can't do it. Won't do it.
At first I wasn't a fan of Nuun, I gotta be honest. But after a while, I grew attached to them. They are convenient in the tube that they come in, and when hiking, its easy just to drop into a bladder or bottle and go. It beats the hell out of carrying a ziplock bag full of gatorade power.
I first tried nuun a year or so ago. I did not dig it. But I finally grew up (and sick of gatorade, powerade, etc.) and decided to give nuun another shot. I throw these in my pack and lunch box and go. I like the fruit and citrus flavors and if I consumed caffeine without spazzing out I'd really like the kona cola. I tried a sip and it was rockin'. Anyway, nuun is tasty and not overly sweet.
The Nuun gets the job done. It tastes good, disolves well and is simple to carry. But it NOT a sports drink...It is meant to simply aid hydration. BUT, I can never understand why companies put sodium in hydrations drink since yes, its an electrolyte, but it also can work against you when trying to hydrate since its a natural dehydrator too. I look for electrolytes w/o sodium as I feel they do the job better.
Love these hydration tabs. I won't ride without them - and I'm finding myself using them at other times now as well (hiking, wandering around town, etc). I don't do well with sugar - these tabs are NOT too sweet and have a good flavor. I love the citrus and the kona. They work very well - I seriously wouldn't consider riding without them now.
tastes much better than sugary Gatorade-type drinks. very refreshing and better than the Camelback electrolyte tablets. Haven't used it on a difficult workout yet to see if it gives back the energy lost, but i'm looking forward to it!
Head's up: the cola will taste kind of funky at first, but the orange, lime, and berry are pretty innocuous. The berry is actually quite tasty. If you can get down Cytomax, Heed, Accelerade, and that kind of goop, these are really much more palatable and more convenient. Since they're sugar-free and hardly have any carbs and no protein, be sure to bring along some other nutrition to take care of energy and recovery, but these guys have you covered for hydration needs.
I discovered these tabs on this years High Pass Challenge, a 115 mile ride up Mt St Hellens. I'd brought along the drops, etc, what a pain. Nuun tabs were at the water stops so I loaded my bottle and camel back, they were great. I have struggled with cramps before, I think these tasty little guys save the ride for me. Easy, quick, and effective, good taste.. and no cramps.
This stuff is great. I use this after a sweaty bikram session and it's great! It lasts a few hours without tasting bad if you don't finish your bottle of liquid either. Way better than a lot of the electrolytes out there and works fast!
I ordered a bunch of these tubes, and they are the best energy drink I've had! Nothing tops water, but it's nice to get some electrolytes in too, more...
Wanted to love these for their uber-convenience while backpacking and for the reasons every other reviewer seems to love them, but I just didn't. Something more...
