    Futuristic design for all-mountain awesomeness.

What do urban rail-slayer Frank Bourgeois and backcountry legend Devun Walsh have in common? They both ride the Now IPO Snowboard Binding, thanks to its smooth, yet responsive feel and revolutionary design. It's been given a couple of upgrades this season to make it even better than ever.

The Hanger baseplate has a hinge, inspired by the dynamics of a skateboard truck, that acts as a fulcrum to quickly and efficiently transfer energy from edge to edge. This means that instead of flexing your baseplate on turns, all of your energy goes directly to the edge, ultimately reducing foot fatigue and leg pain while improving response. Bushings at the contact points between the baseplate and the board reduce chatter for a smoother ride and prevent board breakage. The IPO includes medium- and soft-density bushings that are interchangeable depending on whether you prefer more dampening or more response.

New this season is a slightly taller and stiffer Freewing highback for increased lateral support, as well as new Sieva straps, which feature spineless EVA construction for a flexible feel that locks your foot down without causing pressure points. One more addition to the IPO is new Buckles 2.0, which allow for shorter throws so you can strap in more quickly. Flushcup technology makes the highback sit above the heelcup so that the back of your boot is flush with both the highback and the heelcup, which not only improves response, but also gives you the option of riding highback-less with the Highcup insert (not included) for the ultimate surfy feeling. The IPO also includes a Channel system disc in addition to the 4X4 pattern disc so you can ride it with any major board brand on the market.

    Too legit to quit...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just got done demoing these at Whistler/Blackcomb here in wonderful BC Canada, and these bindings are so so SOOOO legit. I was a little bummed because I was hoping to demo the women-specific Vetta model, but they were all sold out. That said, apparently, the Now brand is based out of BC and the shop I demo'd them at is very tight with the inventor of the Now binding Skate Tech system. They were able to give me a lot of info on these and set me up right with them. If you're ever at Whistler, definitely check out Underground Tuning in the Lobby of the Summit Lodge. They know their stuff!

Onto the actual review...the bindings themselves are AMAZING. You would never think that you'd get such a performance difference from a pair of bindings do! You know that feeling when you want to just shred into something, but it takes you a minute to get your weight balanced on the edge of your board and get the pressure just right? Well these bindings take care of that 100%. With the IPOs, all it takes is a slight flick of the ankle and all of a sudden, you are on your edge, shredding the way your board was meant to shred! Also, you won't just see this response on the groomers, the same was true on groomers as it was for half a foot of fresh pow. These bindings deliver, regardless of conditions.

It's not every day that a snowboard tech invention comes along and changes the industry, but I truly believe the Skate Tech will do just that. At least for riders who can actually notice/benefit from the performance increase.

You'll have to excuse me, I've got some USD to convert to CAD so I can pick up these bindings.

The only binding you should be riding

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got on these the first year on the advice of my roommate. Ive ridden my fair share of different setups over the years, NOTHING has made as much of a difference as NOWs.

I just picked up a set of '14-'15 selects and put them thru 3 days in Summit county this last week. Once again did not disappoint.

Hardpack always feels like soft pack, Soft pack feels like cotton candy. Another thing noone really tells you... this is literally the only binding you should run moguls with.

The quick turning capability is unparalleled. My current stick is a Libtech TRS and combining the magnetraction with the skatetech have to TRY and blow out an edge on Ice. Edge hold feels infinite.

In short, the hype is real.

    Great bindings

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have these on my slash straight and have ridden everything from steep and deep at Meadows in heather canyon and the backside of Schweitzer and then on to the park to slide some rails and spin on some wedges. The response given to the board is great. Edge to edge is much quicker than say a traditional binding. Weight is low and comfort is good as well. Great binding.

    Skate-tech is smooth...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Really like the articulation in these bindings. NOW has hit the mark with their skate tech, IMHO. Have had these bindings out for three solid days thus far. Very comfortably, easy in-out, awesome responsiveness. Only gripe (and reason they don't get 5-stars) is that toe strap broke at the top of the mountain after just three days of was a cold day, roughly 10-degrees, but strap should have lasted longer. Had no issues boarding down with just the ankle strap of the back foot. I've got the 2014/2015 model with the medium density bushings. Very cush ride. Have been happy with the way that they ride/handle, so have ordered the 2015/2016 Drive model.

what a bang for the buck

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

if you are an aggressive freestyler looking for a binder that does not break the bank this is the binder for you. The new strap has got to be the most comfortable I have ever riden.

    Sizing Chart

In 2014 Now had just a few pair of bindings but for the 2015-2016 season they came out with the Now Pilot as a more aggressive version of the IPO with a bigger heel cup to accommodate a higher volume boot. So the heel cup on the 2015 Now IPO's will be the same as the 2014 Now IPO's but the high back will be a new design on the 2015 IPO's.

    How much do these weigh?
How does the weight compare to other bindings?

Binding manufactuers don't publish the weights of their products. But from my experience Now bindings aren't heavy the way some of the other bindings I've ridden have been.

What bindings do you want to compare these to?

Is weight more important than performance?
