I loved the sturdy, no-nonsense design and great pockets on this pair of pants. But I'm a 5'7" size 2, and the small ran way too big on me (though the length was good). Sadly had to return them. Skinny chicks, beware.

These are comfortable, loose middle thickness pants. The waist is high -- it hits my natural waist. There is a velcro belt built into it. The pockets are all good sizes and the right side leg pocket has an inner pocket that seems to be for sunglasses (etc.) They are about 2 inches too long for me, at 5'4". Too heavy for kentucky hiking in summer, but they'll be great for the Cascades this fall.

These are a great fitting, comfortable pant. They were a little long for me(I'm 5'3) but nothing that a little hemming couldn't take care of (didn't want them to drag and shred the bottoms). The fabric is forgiving and the articulated knees work well.

I wore these pants almost everyday of a 2-week backpacking trip on the North Slope of Alaska. They were great for all the weather up there except the chilliest, rainiest conditions (in which case, I just threw a pair of rain pants over them). The bottoms got a bit scuffed from all the sitting on rocks in our gravel bed camping areas, but I think any pants would have suffered similarly. The pants are cut right and have a high enough waist not to interfere with a full pack. They dry quickly after river-crossings. The pockets are plentiful and well-placed to make accessing handkerchief, spare glasses, chapstick very easy. Best of all, they are mosquito-resistant -- a huge plus when the hungry swarms emerge at the beginning of summer. I am so glad I had these pants along - they were a mainstay of my trip.

I'm planning an 8 day trek in the ADKs and I am having a *terrible* time finding actual technical pants for a woman that fit comfortably and are designed not to interfere with a heavy pack's hip belt. I am 5'6" and have large legs/bum, but smaller (relatively) waist... I range between 14-16, most retailers size up akwardly for my shape. Do you think these pants will accomodate a larger lady bum without the typically accompanying 4" of gapping waistband int h back? Thanks for ANY feedback!!

Hey Enaid, I think you will be in good shape ordering the XL of this brand pant. The XL's fit like a very loose size 12 and the waistband has adjustable velcro straps so you won't have to deal with the gap in the back. I know the feeling! If not, it's easy to return their gear and only costs $6.99 to ship back.
