    Better than advertised

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

Comfortable and durable. The most surprising is wind proofing. I have been using them snow shoeing most recently. 10F and two feet of snow. No other layers with these pants. Also, no gaiters required. The hook and Velcro at the ankle make for perfect snowshoeing.

    • Size Bought: M

These pants are heavy duty, functional, fairly comfortable, and good fit. I wear a 32 loosely in most pants, the Medium was the right choice for me. They are adjustable with Velcro straps on the waist if needed. They do come LONG. $9 at the local dry cleaner to hem them up to my size.
Price is high, quality is high. Worth the money if you are in the cold and the conditions are rough. They do vent along the sides.
Front hip pockets are small, everything else is about perfect.
Definitely recommended; however, the Fjallraven Kebs are my go-to's. These are for more serious conditions.

    Great Hybrid

    • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: Small

Pants appear well made and everything I was looking for...ideal for cooler weather for sure, without the restriction that comes with most heavy-duty pants.

However, in regards to the sizing...contrary to one of the Q&A responses, a Small will not fit somebody who normally wears a 32" waist...I am a 31" typically (32" will always fit a little loose), but I could barely snap the waist on the Small...thus the Small would best fit anybody in the 28"-30" range.

    great pants

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

bought these in green for hiking, hunting and general outdoor use. very well made. had a chance to take them on a few hikes. side vents work very well to keep you cool while climbing and zipped up keeps you toasty if you decide to take a break on some high windy ridge. I'm 6'1" 185 lbs. I bought a L and the length is great with hiking boots and the built in gaiter hook work well. Waist is a touch loose but the side adjustments make up for that. If you are a similar size to me either a M or L will work depending how tight you like them. these have great flex and I would definitely buy them again probably in Medium

    well rounded kit

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size

The svalbard heavy duty hybrid pant presents a good balance of style, functionality, and toughness.

I bought this pant primarily as my bushcraft/survial training pant during the colder season and here are couple of pros and cons based on 4 days of heavy duty use laying on the ground on my butt, knees, and bushwhacking through thick woods with thorns all over the place.

    Pros:

    1. This is one of the better looking pants in its class, and the attached waist band allows you to get a near custom fit. My waist is between 32~33" with inseem of ~31" and the medium fit me almost perfectly (the leg is slightly longer than I'd like).

    2. Six zippered pockets are very useful for variety of uses, and the side vent is very useful when it gets a little hot during the day.

    3. The fabric keeps you plenty warm. I've worn it down to low 30s without any base layer and my legs felt fine.

    4. The fabric is pretty tough, after 2 to 3 days of bushwhacking through thorny vines, I only saw maybe 4 or 5 spots where threads came loose near on the legs.

    Cons:

    1. Contrary to the pictures shown, the cargo pocket zippers (and the back pocket zippers, although these aren't pictured) do not have string pull tabs that the hand pockets have. The actual zipper tabs are pretty small, so if you have extra large (and sometimes clumsy in the cold hands like me), then it's not always pleasant to use the zippers.

    2. These pants are made in Vietnam. Don't know whether that's the reason, but the fit/finish don't seem as good as my Lofoten pro shell pant which is made in China.

    3. The Flex3 softshell in the seat and knees will soak through if laying on damp ground for couple of minutes.

If I had much longer legs, I'd go for a Fjallraven pant as I think they're better suited for my uses, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Svalbard pant as an all-around outdoor pant for colder seasons.

    well rounded kit

    As advertised-bulletproof.

Somehow Norrona has managed to make a pant this tough while maintaining a soft, flexible and comfortable fit light enough for use in all seasons. I could go on, but what's the point? Buy them and you won't be disappointed. I am 6'3" 180lbs with a 33' waist and 33" inseam-Large fit perfectly after I adjusted the waist.

The best softshell pants from Norr?na!!!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

You cannot go wrong with these!! Very durable, move nicely with you, fit is great, they have many uses for all seasons, handy pockets and they sell out like hot bread in Europe. Love the blue color too! Get them, they are worth every penny!

I have a 34-36 waist and 30 inch inseam .Which size shall I buy?

    Hugo,

Hey, so you are actually in between a Small and a Medium - the Small is going to fit 31.7" up to 32.7" waist and also has a 30.5" inseam. Mediums will fit from 34.6" to 36.6" waist with a 31.5" inseam.

The best bet for you would be to purchase both the Small and the Mediums and see which fit you best and return the one that doesn't. Not too sure if you will be layering under these, if so I would definitely recommend going with the Mediums.

    Hey Larry,

Unfortunately we do not have any more of these on order. Check back with us as winter progresses, sometimes we will order more of something later in the season. So as of now it does not look like we will be getting more, but this can change.

Would these be too warm for spring/fall hiking, climbing, and general outdoor? I am looking for a non-insulated soft shell that offers great wind and water protection.

The Norrona Svalbard hybrid pants are a great lightweight softshell that breathes well and combines fabrics to offer comfort, durability, and weather resistance. The knees and seat are reinforced with Flex3 softshell material which offers the weather protection you're likely looking for. It should be noted though that the body of the pants is not a softshell fabric and does not offer the same weather protection.

If you're looking for full coverage in a softshell fabric, I recommend something like the Norrona Falketind pants: http://www.backcountry.com/norrna-falketind-softshell-pant-mens?ti=U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHM6bm9ycm9uYToxOjQ&skid=NRA0236-COOBK-XL
