Trekking in the rain is almost as enjoyable as sipping mai tais on the beach when your legs are clad in the Norrona Women’s Svalbard Flex 1 Softshell Pant. The single layer of Flex1 softshell fabric breathes as you traverse over rock-pocked trails without letting the wind-driven drizzles find their way inside. Tabs at the waist take up excess fabric when the temps climb high enough for you to ditch your ultra-thick long johns. Avoid undue exposure by snaring the laces on your leather boots with the gaiter hook. Pockets pepper your profile, many of them zipped, so you can hike with snacks at hand and not fear spilling your sugar-rush if you overestimate your stability on slippery ground.

Love these pants the style fit and the feel. But unfortunately they are a bit too long :(

Tested 'em out in their namesake land

Tested 'em out in their namesake land

When I first saw these on, I fell in love... however, the whole never seeing this company in any store in the USA...EVER.... deterred me from purchasing them. But, the moment I stepped off the plane in Longyearbyen, Svalbard Norway, pretty much everyone under the midnight sun was decked out in Norrona. So I went into the shops in town and picked up a pair of these pants. Oh my god. They are pretty much the greatest softshell pants I could have ever asked for. I wore them on multiple field excursions, and they have some pretty sweet features for all the geologist out there. Need a pocket large enough for your little yellow "write in the rain"... cargo pocket is PURRFECT... also they really quite durable, and so if you are sitting on your knees looking at some sediments, you will never have to worry about ruining your pants... even the finest glacial clays just wash right out.

The other pockets on these things are pretty great too. The two front pockets are soft as kittens, and a great place to warm frozen finger tips when your being active and get that weird "too hot for gloves yet too cold for no gloves" feeling (happens to me all the time).

Ive worn these pants on every single hike or field excursion I have done here in Svalbard, and I only have 2 minor complaints. 1: They stretch out a little bit with wear.. However, if you wash them, they go right back to their original size. In case anyone was going to ask: I am 5'8 and ~130 lbs, and so I went for the size medium for the length. 2: the ankle snaps are just a little bit too loose at times. They work pretty great, but by the end of the day when you're running back down that glacier, they may slide up your boots and let a little snow in.
Did I also mention that these pants are super attractive too? I mean you can go from hiking directly to the bar, without a second thought (that may be 1 part svalbard culture, and 1 part pant style... but I would were these out and about back home in the USA)
