Norrna Svalbard Cotton Hiking Pant
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
great fit from the word go - gets even better after the 1st wash.
pockets are ok - size 34 waist, bought a L and it works for me
Love the fit
This is one of the best made and comfortable pants I own. A typical pant uses two piece of material for each leg. Norrona uses four in this pair. Plus there is additional cut and stitching at the top front and bottom back of the knee. The result is an amazing fit that moves with you. As another reviewer pointed out, the front pockets are a bit shallow, but I personally like that for casual wear - and for outdoor use I don't like anything things bouncing in the front pockets. The zippered thigh pocket is functional and adds to the "look". There is also a button thigh pocket and a zippered "pocket watch" pocket in the left front pocket - great for a key or I.D. My feeling is the sizing is a bit large. I am 6'3" and 175 and the medium is a great fit. I think the length runs a bit long as in most brands a "medium" would be way to short - and maybe a bit tight. But this in medium fits me well. I'd be swimming in a large. Awesome pair of pants. Norrona doesn't seem to be completely consistent in their sizing between different styles of pants. In general I'd size down one size, but that isn't always the case.
Not sold on the pockets...but good pants
Different pocket configuration from last year, and no more zippers on the front hand pockets-which I thought were handy when hiking or bouldering, but overkill when using them for a casual pant. The hand pockets (front and back) have no closure this year and I find them to be a little shallow-things fall out of the pockets easily-so use the snap cargo pocket or the zip phone pocket for the important stuff. I think they must have known this would be an issue, since there it a small zippered change pouch in the right front hand pocket. I guess this is just more of a casual pant than last year.
That said, this is a product worthy of Norrona-comfortable, tough and unique. The waist adjustment comes in handy for me (6'3", 180, 33" waist 33" inseam) and the large is a loose but not baggy fit when adjusted. I usually wear a belt though as the length I need only comes with a large.
If you are familiar with this brand you know the colors are often even brighter than the pic-and the "Green Meadow" is no exception. It is almost a neon green.
Sizing is escew
Watch out for the sizing on these. I got a pair from Norrona Direct a couple months ago and when they came they were literally 1-2 sizes too large. I have a 32 inch waist and these fit like I was trying on some 34-36. I would definitely size down to a small if the guide tells you you are a medium and large size down to a medium and so on and so forth. Other than that, breathable light and the amazing quality we have grown to know about from Norrona. Other than the size I still give them 2 thumbs up, I guess us consumers need to be wary of the new American size chart!
