Are these suitable for glacier hiking? I will be in Iceland in March and need something warm and waterproof. The waist also seems like it would be harness friendly if I wanted to do any ice climbing in the future. I am looking for a pair of versatile pants. I live in a hot climate so buying cold weather gear is not my strong suit. If you have other suggestions I should consider, please let me know. However, I need a pair of pants that have a smaller waist and are loose in the hips as I am curvy. Thanks.

As usual with Norrona great quality!

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

Sure Norrana is not cheap. However the quality is great. I bought the medium size and I think these pants are a true sizing. Tall ladies may want to check the seam length before ordering. These are the best insulated pants I have owned and when I need new ski gear I will save my pennies and will buy Norrana whenever possible

Thanks for this review. I'm glad these work for you, as they are generally considered to be for a taller form. But, I have found they work for all heights. It's a good cut!

Fashion question: I have the Pat. Snowbelle 3-in-1 jacket in Dark Currant (you sell their Torrentshell Insulated Jacket in the same color). I'm wondering if I can pull off these red Norrona pants with them. The liner of the Snowbelle is a similar red but of course hard to tell online...

Are these a bit more of loose fit or fitted style? Also, does the pocket bother anyone?

Best Answer

These have an athletic fit so they are more fitted than a relaxed or loose fitting pant. However they are not quite as fitted as some athletic fits from other manufacturers.

So far no one has been complaining about the pockets. They seem well placed to not be in the way.

Best insulated ski pants

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:Runs small

I get cold easily. After experiencing hypothermia last year, I resolved to find a pair of the warmest, driest ski pants available. The Norrona Roldal pant fits the bill with style! I own a pair of Norrona Narvik shell pants that I used for ski instructing and love their fit, style, and performance, so decided to try the Roldal insulated pant. In single digit temperatures with biting winds, I was comfortable with just a thin baselayer beneath. Skiing during a day of sleet and freezing rain, I was toasty and dry. The waist is lined with soft material and has great adjustability with well-placed, large velcro tabs. Zippers are sturdy and thigh vents are ample. Fit of my normal size L was a little snugger than I'm used to at the hips so I went with an XL and the fit looks identical to what's shown on the model on the product listing picture. Plenty of room to move in and add more layers if needed, but still looks stylish. The red color is more of an bright orangey-red, not a scarlet red, which suited me fine, since I paired them with a green Norrona jacket and was afraid of looking like a Christmas tree. Best-made ski pants out there, hands down. Afraid of spending the money on these? Once you've worn them, you'll be SO glad you did!

Which base layer brands do you like best (for temps in the 20's F and below)?

I would recommend a merino wool baselayer. I typically stay warmer with fewer layers when I first layer with merino wool. Plus merino wool is not itchy for me and I have sensitive skin.

Icebreaker and Stoic are also great brands.

For below 0. I usually add a down vest or Patagonia R1, R2, R3 or R4 series layer. The higher the number the thicker the layer.

Good luck!

Best insulated pants

These are bomb proof. Others are shivering around and I am warm and toasty! Now on the second season (approx. 40 days last year and 10 this year) I still love them for those cold days (below 15).

I'm 5'10", 170 lbs. I like a loose, comfortable fit, but not falling off my hips. What would you recommend--large or x-large in the Norrona women's insulated pant?

Hey Rebecca,

For us to actually be able to answer that we would probably need your measurements. A lot of people carry weight differently so what we would probably need for you to do is get your waist and inseam measurement and then give our customer service a call. I would just hate to take a guess here and have you order the wrong size.

look at the size chart. the sizes run differently. I normally wear a medium, but according to the size chart, I am a small in these. I ordered the small and they fit great and a little on the loose side.

Absolutely love these pants! The gore-tex works like a charm as always and they're super warm and comfortable with the primaloft insulation. The venting system is great when you heat up and need some extra breathability. I'm 5'6 125 lbs, I got the mediums but they were way too big so exchanged them for a small, perfect fit. I've never been a fan of insulated pants so was a little skeptic buying these but now I'll never go back! Always getting compliments on them, love em' and would definitely recommend them!

These snow pants are by far the best pants Ive ever bought. Goretex for obvious reasons makes these pants uber water resistant even on the wettest colded days I am sitting happy with these pants. I use them for snowboarding as well as telemark skiing. Im 5ft 4" 125 lbs (or less on my good months) and i bought size small. They sit on my actual waiste and not my hips. but they dont give the appearance of a mom butt. they are NOT tight by any means. I prefer a looser fit over skin tight snowpants (which seem to be the style) These fit a little looser in the leg but not loose too loose. They are perfect when wearing ski or board boots but when i am wearing regular shoes or just walking around they are quit long and drag.

The pants came with an attached powder skirt which is awesome for added protection.

all in all, these pants are worth the money.

As of today all prices of new norrona gear...

As of today all prices of new norrona gear went up 10%, which now makes the norrona website cheaper and that is with with $20 shipping to u.s. and duties. WTF?

Hi Kara,

No scam going on (Norrona's site does not account for tax & duty so when you look at their site it's misleading)...just the unfortunate cost of getting this stuff into the US from Europe for our customers (we are the only US retailer you can get it from on the web or in a brick n' mortar).

Thanks for your question Kara & for your involvement in community!
