So ethereal that light passes through it, the 80-gram Norrna OffTrack Microfibre Jacket is the ultimate in packable wind protection. Its secret? Aero 100 fabric, an ultralight false-twist woven synthetic that repels water and wind without the stifling effects of a membrane layer. A single pocket stores a key or identification, and the dropped rear hem covers your back when biking or wearing a pack.

  • Backcountry.com is the exclusive US retailer for Norrøna products

Disappointed

By:

I was really looking forward to getting a lightweight windshirt for UL backpacking and was excited about this product (and it's price). However, I have been severely disappointed.

As a windshirt it is functional. It's worked well above treeline and shed water in for an hour or so in a storm where I saw misty rain, hail, snow, and fat drops.

The reason I do not recommend this product though is that the specs are considerably misleading. This WS weighs 6oz in size Medium...a far cry from the 2.82 oz advertised. With so many windshirts available around 3-4 oz WITH hoods I would have been willing to spend the extra money for them. As is I ended up spending $60 on a product that fails to live up to its advertised performance. If I already had a WS I would have returned this immediately, I may still.

I would like to upgrade to the Stoic Wraith or a TNF Verto both of which are lighter and have hoods.

Is the $20.00 price for real?

It looks like it is. It showed up in my cart at the $20 price. They are probably closing out last year's colors or some such.

cool jacket, but not for me

By:
September 10, 2010

i was hoping it would be a little bit tougher material, but it's pretty much like a windbreaker. a very very cool windbreaker, but thin nonetheless... also the cuffs were of a poorer quality than typical norrona gear, they were just elastic bands. i got the black one in medium, it fit really slim and good. i'm 6 foot 3 and about 175, thin. it was a great euro cut. i returned it for a heavier duty jacket. 4 stars and awesome

Adding beefier cuff adjustments, more pockets, etc defeats the purpose of a windshirt like this. The fact that this jacket weighs less than 3 oz should have been enough to tip you off that this is an exceptionally light windshirt, not a winter-weight softshell. :P

I'm 5'10", 185 lbs. I usually have a hard time deciding between a large and a medium, but I'm glad I bought the medium this time. It fits great, with enough room across the shoulders that my movement is not constricted at all. The length is good to, with the front falling just an inch or two below my waistline, and the back dipping enough for me to use it with my bike.

i always buy medium and in some cases small, i'm 6'3" and 180ish and i got the medium and it fit very very well. i too can attest to what josh bartee said about the sleeves balooning out.

I always buy small, and this fits true to size (compared to Patagonia, etc., and the other brands you listed),. The sleeves have a tight elastic band around the cuff. When you push them up, the light nylon sleeves balloon out a bit, naturally, and the cuffs have very firm elasticity.

Great, lightweight, works.

Great for blustery days at the beach. It'll keep the wind off if you find yourself exposed. Because it is so lightweight, when the wind catches it the material clings to your body. The elastic nylon cuffs are tight and responsive so you won't be pushing your sleeves up all day. Each pocket has a drawcord for cinching the windshirt's waist; in addition, the drawstrings help in getting the jacket stuffed into its own pocket which, once stuffed, is about the size of an orange.

And it looks very cool.

Anybody have any experience with the durability of this jacket?

Anybody have any experience with the durability of this jacket? I'm considering it for mountain biking but it would need to withstand rubbing up against some brush. Thoughts?

It has good durability for the weight of the fabric. It has also good breathability and wind resistance.

Norrøna OffTrack Microfibre Jacket

By:
December 24, 2010

Well I'm definitely believing in the quality of Norrøna gear, but I have to say that I couldn't really find use for these ones. Maybe I'm not using light jackets that often and have other similar item, bottom line is that I returned them.
But I they are lightweight and offer good windprotection and protect you from some showers.
Anyway I have to many marathon jacket from different cities who already fit these purposes.
But for $50 it's great quality for a low price.

Nice jacket

By:
September 5, 2010

I like my large jacket for fit (I'm 170 lbs, 5'11"), not sure about wear yet, but it does weigh 6.4 ounces, not 2.8 as shown on the web site. Still, pretty light
