Why wear a crinkly, stiff, unisex shell when you can pull on the Norrona Women's Narvik Comfortweld Gore-Tex Jacket and be comfortable instead? Norrona made the Narvik with windproof, waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Soft Shell that protects you during the snowstorm yet doesn't compromise your ability to ski, climb, or otherwise move. Gore Micro Taped seams stop moisture from seeping in. They also cut down on bulk, so you get a jacket that packs easily and is super comfy in the backcountry.
Backcountry.com is the exclusive US retailer for Norrøna products
Bottom Line: Ditch your stiff shell and wear the Narvik waterproof breathable, stretchy softshell instead.
After reading the reviews on here I am going back and forth between getting this jacket in M or L. ...I want to use fleece or a down sweater under it in the winter...I am 5'9" and about 140lbs. Can somebody tell me the length in the back of a L and the hip and/or chest measurement? Maybe that would help... THANK YOU!!!
I am your size, and the medium is plenty big. I also wear with a down sweater. Caveat: I am fairly small in the shoulders and torso, and usually wear either a small or a medium in jackets. If you are distributed differently, and usually wear a medium or large, maybe the large.
Hi, I'd like to know if this jacket is totally windproof and great for Northern Vermont cold winter weather with a layer under? I have a Patagonia that is sort of like a soft shell and in windy conditions it's cold...
I'm hesitating between this jacket (the Narvick) and the Falketind Goretex Paclite...
This is windproof, yes. I have the Narvik Gore-Tex Soft Shell pants that I use in the backcountry and I've never had a whiff of wind go through them unless I have the vents open. The fabric itself will keep you dry and wind-free.
As to whether these would be better than the Falketind, it depends on whether you're looking for a soft shell or a hard shell. My experience with the pants is that the fabric is almost half-way between a typical soft shell and a hard shell. For general winter wear with layers underneath, this should work out just fine.

I love this coat. Period. I wore it skiing in Northern Vermont (mind you it's not too cold yet) with just a base layer and fleece zip up. I also ride horses and though it's been getting wicked dirty, holds up really well and the shape is perfect, not crazy bulky and ugly. I'm 5'4" 130 lbs. and mines a small. Really resistant to water and wind. The only thing I would change is the sleeves are a little long, but it's nothing too bad.
Did you buy your wife the jacket in "greenery" or in olive? And if you bought the "greenery" model, could you tell me where? I am desperately looking to buy one in the internet but I haven't found one so far. Thanks!!
Long, comfortable, and my favorite, it comes with the piece inside the sleeve that slips around your thumb. I think it is called a powder sleeve? Always have had one on all my jackets, so in the research, this was a bonus. Price is a little high, but I got it on sale. Plus the over the border thing is a little pricey.... Please remember this if you order from Canada! Oh, and yes order 1 size bigger, it does fit better....
I am a medium in a Patagonia jacket not fitted and a size 8. I have read that these jackets fit small so I am not sure if I should get a large or medium because of arm length. What should I do???? I am 5'6 140lbs
I am the same size, and I went for a L in this jacket. It fits nicely, as a medium would fit through the shoulders and chest. Arms are a little long, but I don't even notice when I am moving/ skiing. I prefer a small bit of room in my jackets, and this provides that and still has a lean silhouette.
Got this jacket for my wife - and it was pretty sweet. I'd say quality is at par with Arcteryx (I own 3 Arcteryx jackets) and the colors are stylin. However, the cut was a bit small/too fitted and when we sized up, the arms were too long (definitely longer than TNF jackets)... so we ended up returning it. Dang those tall Norwegians!
5'5" 115 lbs more or less. XS -- like the fit. A bit longer than XS in some brands which I consider a plus. I would say true to size on the XS. (Pants are quite large in XS.)
On behalf of my wife, who has not tested this in the elements yet, this is a serious jacket. It has the feel of arc'teryx, no doubt a super high quality make. Medium fits her well, she is 5'8 and thin. Has a nice fitted appearance. Less of a soft shell than one may be led to believe based on the description, but that is okay with us. Should be just what she needs for the Pacific NW.
When I was investigating the M Narvik (May 9, 2008, I saw your requested color, online, at the "Tannery", "Flemington's" /"21 Century" Department stores, NY, and "Blue Ridge Mountain Sports", WV. I hope this helps. acket.
