Designed with serious freeriders in mind, the Norrona Lofoten Integral 30L Pack holds everything you need for a day shredding the backcountry and is small enough that you can take it into the resort without feeling out of place. The main compartment is accessible via a full-zip back opening, and features a separate shovel and probe pocket, keeping your avy gear organized and easy to find. The bottom of the Integral zips open to make it easy to grab things stuffed into the deep recesses of the pack, and there's a small top zipper pocket to hold goggles and smaller, easy-to-lose items. Norrona outfitted this beauty with A-frame and vertical ski carry, along with vertical snowboard carry, and gave it an insulated hydration sleeve to keep your water from freezing. A rail on either side of the pack allows you to adjust the fit, giving you more support when carrying skis and a tighter, more ergonomic fit to make riding easier when you're sending the line you spent all morning getting to. A 38mm hip belt keeps the weight off your shoulders, while an ice axe or ski poles are easy to carry using the front gear attachment, ensuring that you've got all the tools you need for a successful day of shredding.

A year in...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this about a year now and have to be honest, I have beat the hell out of it. Verdict... this is one hell of a rugged pack. I originally thought the power straps would fail epically, but they are super sturdy and the strap system holds my skis on super tight, even over a long period of time over the most diverse winter fields of ice, snow and crust. They hold my skis in an Aframe perfectly, no complaints. I am 5'10" 165 lbs and this pack fits me like a glove. Though I wish this had greater access to my main compartment, I do like the rear panel access. The water resevoir pocket is built into the back pad to keep your water from freezing and is space efficient. The ave tool compartment is completely separated to drain effectively through the bottom access. I think it is a very large compartment so there is plenty of room for all of your goodies. Aside from that, its not an ABS which is the standard now, but if you want something for touring and are on certain ground, this pack has really grown on me and I have to give it high recommendations, as it is working out for me just fine. I just purchased my second and will continue to use this on the long tours.

Norrona Direct

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got this one from Norrona direct last year, looking to try a new pack out and I am really mixed about this pack. First of all the sizing is one size which is not great because Unless you are the perfect body type this pack leaves you hanging. The sizing fits a medium to large person pretty well, but below that not so much and above that well your SOL. Next is the access. The access in this pack is really just back access which is OK for some, but I like multiple points of access in all of my packs. I am an organization freak and that is just subpar for me. My last grip is the power straps for ski carry are just not amazing at all. I think BC access does a great job of building in large power straps for their ski packs which is definitely something I usually look for in a ski pack. All in all this pack can get it done, but won't wow most people in my perception. Aside from that this pack always has awesome european colors and is in my book ok, but being the fan that I am of Norrona, this product is simply sub par for their line. I expect nothing but the best from Norrona and hope they can go back to the drawing board with this one.
