The Norrøna Men’s Lofoten Gore-Tex Performance Shell Insulated Jacket is your weapon of choice against cold, harsh mountain tempests. Thanks to waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Performance Shell fabric and fluffy PrimaLoft synthetic insulation, the wet and cold conditions will be but an afterthought. A helmet-compatible storm hood and zip-out powder skirt help seal you off from the blowing snow, and underarm zip vents dump excessive body heat. Norrøna also added internal pockets for your ski pass and MP3 player.
PLEASE NOTE: This garment is regular fit and runs true to size

wore it, amazing features, they really thought of everything. 5 stars for the jacket, though i was shipped the wrong color and now they're out and it won't be restocked....it's really nice though i would like to wear it when i'm not skiing as well, have to find a replacement, i'm not that comfortable walking around the city in a neon blue jacket.
I've had similarly poor experiences with backcountry.com, and after talking to them on the phone several times trying to resolve ridiculous problems with my orders I'm pretty convinced that most of the staff is composed of spaced out stoners. It's really unfortunate that they're the exclusive dealer of Norrona products because I try to avoid ordering from them lest something like this happens to me.
Got a chance to try this out in wind and blowing snow this weekend. Just fantastic. Echoing what the rest of the reviewers have said, the details are worth the extra cash. Hood keeps out wind and snow, the wire brim keeps vision unobstructed, warm, yet not too warm, great vents. When used in conjunction with Lofoten pants, you're bulletproof.

I wish someone would have clued me in that ALL Montane jackets have there zipper pull on the left hand side of the coat. Have to send mine back, CS told me all Montane Mens Jackets are like this!!! I expect this from the Dollar Stores, not Backcountry.
Bought this as a warmer alternative to the Norrøna Stranda Jacket in connection with the Stranda Pant. I love the fact that is has a high neck, so you can make sure cold wind does not come in anywhere!! It is a jacket that will keep you warm on any slope and although very flashy in the colour, I have no problem wearing a bright neon blue jacket arround town!!
Got this jacket in small size and it's perfect for me (5'9", 150). Roomy enough to let you move relatively freely yet not too baggy. Covers your butt. Sleeves are long enough: even lifting hands up won't make them uncomfortably short. Weighs almost nothing. Color is pretty vivid yellow, but not quite burning-retina acid yellow as others describe. Depends on your color tolerance though, but I have seen much more screaming yellow out there, so it's not that acid. Will even use this one in the city - why not if it appears to be an amazing jacket!
Plus Philip, are you looking for alpine slim, or rather baggy fit? How slim/baggy are your pants? There's a lot to consider. As for me, I'm not a big fan of baggy stuff, but my pants are already pretty baggy, and slim jacket would look awkward w/them. Hope that brings u somewhere.
I'm 5'9", 150 lbs, and ordered small, judging by the video on youtube of that guy from backcountry. He's 6' and M looked pretty darn baggy on him. I'm kinda skinny as well, so hopefully (heh) S will be just fine for me .. Couldn't resist sale anyway ;) Once I get it, I'll update here (might be too late thou)
sick jacket... literally hi-lighter yellow like the other person said - which wasn't what i was expecting, but im fine with.
more freestyle fitting than arcteryx and just as technical, but doesnt look or fit rediculous like some park rat coat.
used to rock a patagucci puffrider, which is a awesome jacket, but fratagonia has their proportions off - the jacket is simply too short for how long the arms are.
I would highly doubt it. Generally places get a shipment at the beginning of the winter season and that is it. I don't think they would be ordering more winter jackets when spring stuff is starting to come out.
hi was just wondering are ski jackets, such as this one, suitable for hill climbing and mountaineering? The norrona shell jackets look thin. Would they keep me warm in freezing temperatures?
Pretty ideal for mountaineering, although there are lighter Primaloft versions. Few are however waterproof as this one is. Powderskirt is removable, and the pitzips are a great offering. This jacket is awesome to combine with a softshell for wintertrips as it doubles as a waterproof shell and a insulation/down jacket.
It should work pretty well for mountaineering. It's insulated so it will keep you warm in cold conditions. This jacket probably has more features than you need for mountaineering, like a powder skirt and pit zips, but that's not such a bad thing.
The details are incredible. Extremely well made and great fabric choices. I've worn it on cool days and been very comfy but have also worn it in really cold conditions and I'm amazed at the comfort range. I pondered a long time about getting the shell or insulated jacket and I'm really happy that I got the insulated version. I'm 6'1" 155lbs. I got the jacket in a medium size and the lofoten shell pants in a large and the fit is perfect for both.
This is one great jacket. I've been wearing it all the time since I got it two weeks ago. The jacket keeps you warm and dry no mater what the weather gods trow at you. Powder skirt, helmet-compatible hood, wrist gaiters, superb waterproof zippers, a big internal pocket for stuffing all kinds of things, internal MP3/cellphone pocket which fits and iPhone perfectly is just some of the innovating features that makes this jacket worth every penny.
Btw, I love the insulated front pockets, and the color of the jackets are awesome... The blue and yellow is really nice. If you like it a bit more casual and not as flashy, go for the black.
It is primaloft 100 gr. But since it is not stich through and baffeled it gives more insulation then the lyngen clo 100 Jacket, that is also using primaloft 100.
This is a great coat. They have pockets everywhere, cinches in the right places, "extras," like the sleeve works as a fingerless glove (if you want) - little things that make you wonder why no one else thought of it. There is a design flaw, however. The placket (or whatever you call it) that rests behind the zipper to keep the air out is too soft of a fabric, and often turns in (leaving the zipper exposed). My plan is to buy some adhesive velcro, and run a line up the placket and the opposite side of the coat underneath the zipper. Also, if you care, the zipper (for the man's coat) is on the "other" side - i.e. the woman's side, so it takes a little getting used to.
there is no 'man side' or 'women side', just a difference in norm between european and american brands! Common misconception in Europe too, where american brands are often thougt of as female.
LOVE this jacket. Was going to buy the Lofoten shell (w/out the insulation), but didn't have my size, so went with the insulated and GLAD I did. The jacket is warm, but not stifling, I ski with a t-shirt underneath when the temp is in the 20's and am warm but not hot. Jacket has all sort of amazing features, from the removable powder skirt, to the goggle cloth that is attached inside the chest pocket, to the wire-rimmed hood that doesn't flop around and fits great around a helmet, wrist gaiters, BIG pit-zips to dump heat really quick. I'm 6'2" 165lbs and the Large fits me really well. The fit is a little looser, not that euro-techy super-tight style, so it goes well with my baggy-ish ski pants...This is easily the best jacket I've ever owned.
I just ordered this jacket in a small and I absolutely love it extremely warm and very high quality but the small was just alittle to snug a medium would be perfect. Will these be back in stock anytime soon?
That is one word to describe this jacket. The technical features of the Lofoten speak for themselves, Gore Performance Shell insulated with Primaloft = premium weather protection & warmth, and lightweight! I am a medium 99% of the time (5'10" & 140lbs) and the medium fits me perfect. Do keep the euro sizing in mind as the fit is a bit different. The cut is nice as the Lofoten does come for Norrona's freeride snow collection so it is not cut like a technical alpine shell. The removable zip out powder skirt, roomy fixed hood, wrist gaiters, and super smooth waterproof zips complete the Lofoten. To top it off there are some killer colors available, the sulphur spring and blue jewel are untouchable!
Norrona started with a blank slate when creating their outerwear. My Fave Features: For starters, GORE-TEX-- extremely breathable and great hand. Second, Primaloft. It heats a freakin sleeping bag as soon as you put it on, but without the bulk. It's the highest construction quality on the market today-- like how Arcteryx used to be. Construction is very original, like extended sleeves to cover the tops of your hands (favorite), super ergonomic wrist gaiters, and a longer body. Other features include wire brimmed, helmet compatible hood, techy-tech waterproof zippers, and two way pit zips. All Norrona is Euro (smaller) fit. I'm 6 feet tall, 160 lbs. and went with the Medium. It fits well, but should have gotten the large because I like my jackets looser. PS... ALL the colors are much more vibrant than pictured on the site. The Sulfur color is literally HI-LITER Lemon Lime--wear your sunglasses!
wore it, amazing features, they really thought of everything. 5 stars for the jacket, though i was shipped the wrong color and now they're out and more...
I wish someone would have clued me in that ALL Montane jackets have there zipper pull on the left hand side of the coat. Have to send mine back, CS told more...
