Great color

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 11"
    Weight: 155 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

Great color, great fit for me. Norrona is pricey, but IMO, worth it. The attention to detail and fit is spot on for me (a slender, athletic fit). I like a little color on the slopes and these guys also never disappoint. I use it mostly as mid layer for skiing under a shell on medium cold days (~20 deg F) and keeps me plenty warm and dry. As a pure outerlayer its not super windproof, but it's not meant to be.

warm in the desert

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

Got this for climbing during the winter months in las vegas. Its been more than warm enough. Granted the coldest its been while climbing is 40's, but still solid for just wearing this and a t-shirt I am more than warm enough. This does have a slim cut to it, but it fits me well since that how a lot of my shirts/coats are. Hope this helps.

True to Size. Warm! Warm! Warm!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

For an inner fleece for layering, the size is perfect. If you are a US Size Large and like to have a SNUG inner layer, not tight, but just right. Then, order your US Size, not the EURO Size as noted. Even though the Norrona Sizing is European... for inner layers, get the size you normally wear. For example, if you are a Size 42-44 in US Size, Noronna suggests you get an XL, but that would be too baggy and be an ill-fitting inner layer. Just get the L.

Really WARM too. I was sweating yesterday at 10C with an outer layer of Goretex Paclite.

Great insulation/amazing breath ability

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

One of the best fleeces I have ever had. Looks good, and is a go to piece if going into the town or into the Mountains. Really breathable so not good for the wind alone but put a shell over this and you get amazing insulation and breath ability. Rad Fleece for sure.

Similar to a Patagonia R1

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I am 6'0 190-195 lbs and normally wear a size Large in Arcteryx or Patagonia. I ordered this jacket in a size XL because I knew that Norrona products were European sizing and thus needed to size up. I was correct. This jacket fits me the same as my Patagonia R1. The outside of the jacket is a fuzzy soft material with some non-fuzzy material on the sides of the jacket and the backside of the arms. The arms are tight and long and the hole for your thumb is a nice touch. The neck is not too large and provides good coverage without being too floppy.

A nice mid-layer jacket and the purple color is deep and fantastic!

no regrets this is a special piece

glad I made the leap. I can already tell it will be an all time piece. This is almost a full time quiver fleece. I sized up and if you are somewhat lean with long arms broad shoulders you may too in relation to weight and height. I am 165 and 5'11" with 34/35 dress shirt sleeve length. I went with size large. Wearing this over a merino wool Icebreaker GT top and of course a shell over it all. It is a sculpted look on me for being a large and would rather have a little too much sleeve than not enough. Running about a 34 waist now that I am 60 gravity is taking over. Hope this helps you fellow slayers but do decide to add this to your collection. It may very well turn out to be a collection of one. For the more bitter days I have the Warm2 in the Trollvegen line. -also- size large.

I got this in BLUE and the Mountain Hardware Grid Monkey Man Fleece in BLACK. Very similar to one another..only the Norrona does not have a hoodie which is what I wanted. Both super mid layers and just nice for kicking around in. Better than your regular gym kit too! lots of applications, super soft and comfortable to wear for those with an athletic build. Salad dodgers would best avoid.

Awesome Mid-Layer. Fits Like a 2nd Skin.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Fit is Europoean (very slim fit). As a point of reference, I'm 6'4", 190 lbs with long arms and lean build. I bought the size XL based on the feedback from other reviewers. The XL fits me snugly through the arms, chest, and body. It's very close-fitting all around... no area is baggy. The stretch panels and polartech material keep it comfortable.

As another reviewer already pointed out: I can only pack a technical layer or 2 underneath. A sweater would make things too tight.

Definitely go a size larger if you really want to layer.

In my case, there is no XXL in this fleece, so I bought a 2nd Norrona fleece for everyday casual use in xize XXL -- the Norrona Trollveggen Warm 2:

Both are fantastic. I wear them both regularly (for slightly different purposes).

I am 5'9" and around 155lbs. A Pat R2 Med...

I am 5'9" and around 155lbs. A Pat R2 Med fits me well and shall I buy same Med in this model? Or shall I go one size bigger?

Probably a size larger, as Norrona is a tighter "european" fit. Best of luck!

Cool looking, but I favor my Pat R1

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

-Ordered a few different colors...all looked neat and unique.
-Soft, stretchy, and comfortable

-The collar (as with many other Norrona products) is too large and looks awkward when not zipped all the way (or nearly all the way) up. It just flops over on itself.
-It runs a bit tighter than the R1, which could be a bit annoying trying to slide over my base layer
-a bit expensive for what it is.

As "cool" as they are, I'm sending them back and will continue to use my plain Jane Patagonia R1.

Great fleece

This fleece rocks. It's pricey, but is well worth the 50 more it costs over a Pat R2. The differences: The waist and wrist band as well as the power stretch panels. The waffle design is amazing under a shell, traps air and keeps you warm when your standing still and breathes when your moving. A merino base layer, this and a shell and I am toasty down into single digits. Plus its cool when you see someone else wearing Norrona you can give each other the knowing nod of quality and taste. It is now my favorit layering piece.

Looks good, but might be a bit pricey for what it is.

I got the black version of this. As far as looks go, it doesn't get much better than this. It has a nice tight fit in the midsection, and opens up a bit in the shoulders.

This is a mix of several fabrics. It has some of the stretchy waffle type fabric found in the Patagonia R1, and some furry (like an R2 with less pile). I didn't find it to be incredibly warm, but is still fairly good in that regard for how little it weighs. The cuffs are also very well thought out. I do think the collar is a little "floppy" though. I can't really explain it. It's just limp when not fully zipped.

I'll probably be sending this back, in favor of another R3 though. I'm not concerned with the weight of the garment, and this seems a little pricey to me for what it is. I'd like to see this garment at $150.

EDIT: There's no way this is going back. I stand by what I said on the pricing, but it's way to nasty to part with, and feels amazing to wear.

Bought this in Caviar, size large (6'3", 180lbs). Slight misrepresentation as the picture on the Norrona website has stretch panels in gray, but pics in Backcountry are accurate. That being said, this is an incredible fleece, if you are looking for a warm layer under a shell, or as a light outer layer. It IS warm, but the stretch fabric panels are not windproof at all. I'm pretty lean, and the large is a snug enough fit that I can only pack a couple of technical layers underneath-a sweater would make things too tight, so go a size larger if you really want to layer. This is not a roomy North Face, and won't be a flattering fit if you have a gut... Hand gaiters are a plus, as they keep the sleeves taut and provide some protection for your hands. Summary-this is one sharp fleece, and if you have the right shape it will look REALLY good-and chances are no one else you know has one like it!
