A versatile, waterproof hardshell that's excellent in any season.

Light enough for summer and durable enough for winter, the Norrona Men's Falketind Gore-Tex Jacket stands up to any weather you face when you go climbing, hiking, camping, backpacking, skiing, or snowboarding. Its Gore-Tex 3-layer shell gives this jacket guaranteed waterproof protection to keep you dry in unexpected rain storms in the summer and snowy conditions at the ski resort. Despite its waterproof protection, this jacket remains incredibly breathable and air permeable to keep you comfortable when the sun pokes out during your alpine ascent. Norrona added an interlock knit lining for extra comfort so you can cozy up at each belay stance.

A slightly short cut accommodates your harness and backpack so you don't feel so bulky while you play on the mountain. The Falketind also features long underarm zippers for ventilation so you stay dry when you're working up a sweat. Its hood leaves room for a helmet. Water-resistant zippers help keep water out in places most jackets fail. Asymmetric cuffs stay off your hands while you climb, and both the cuffs and the hem are adjustable so you can seal out the elements when it gets a bit chilly.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size

I purchased the Falketind jacket earlier this year as a climbing shell and everyday wearer and it really is a sharp jacket. One thing to be aware of that is stated in the other review as well is that the sleeves really are quite long, and the jacket itself is a bit short. These are great features when I'm out climbing but it can be a bit obnoxious when I'm out on the street to have sleeves almost 5 inches longer than my arm. The other thing that I've noticed is that the velcro on the wrists isn't very strong, and has started to pull off of the jacket a bit after only a few months of use. If it weren't for that this would be a five star jacket.

Fast and light for all seasons

As Winter transitions into Spring I have been getting way gear hungry, and recently decided that a solid lightweight hardshell would be the perfect solution. I love jackets like these because they feel like a total luxury item when you first buy them, but based on amount of use, they are the best value/dollar of any gear you can own (if you don't have one, get one!). My next big purchase was going to be an Arcteryx Alpha FL, but after testing the Norrona Falketind Gore-Tex Jacket I have some serious soul searching to do (it was awesome!).

The Norrona Falketind is one of the best lightweight G-Tex shells I have encountered. Excellent durability and weather proofing, lots of adjustability, and all of the usual bells and whistles that you expect from an all season shell jacket (helmet compatibility, long underarm zips, asymmetrical cuffs with velcro closures).

This jacket was a perfect fit for me in the Large (I am 6' and 180lbs) with just enough room for a light down midlayer or Norrona fleece. Trim/athletic fit (I think the length is great no matter what the product description says about it being short).

And I can definitely vouch for the seasonal versatility. I have worn the Falketind G-Tex during February skiing and mountaineering, as well as March hiking and biking trips when precipitation and wind can vary by the hour. Honestly, I don't think I would feel confident on an outing anymore without the Norrona Falketind Gore-Tex Jacket on my back or in my pack.

I have the Dri3 version of this jacket (Dri3 is Norrona's waterproof fabric). Seems like they have replaced that with Gore-Tex in this new version.

Anyway, fantastic jacket. I have a weakness for jackets and I have too many hard shells (Arc'Teryx, Westcomb, Fjallraven, Patagonia, Norrona) but I always pick the Norrona when I go hiking and backpacking in the rain. It's light, always keeps me dry, the Dri3 fabric is fairly quiet, the pit zips are great, fit is good.

I have not heard of this company. Can someone please offer some history and long term experience? Thanks. Peace.

Norrona is a norwegian company thats been around since 1929. Today they make hiking, climbing, mountaineering, skiing/snowboarding, mountain biking gear. They were the first European company to make a Gore-Tex jacket in the late 70's. Gore is pretty strict on their products, all of their membranes are guaranteed waterproof and breathable.

Hi Craig, I purchased a pair of Falketind gore-tex trousers to pair with a jacket. I've worn them when Nordic skiing in blizzard conditions and they proved themselves as an outdoor item. They kept the snow and wind out, which meant a comfortable day of skiing even with a blizzard. I also found them durable which is important for Nordic/Cross-country skiing. They'd be too warm for spring-time Nordic skiing when the temperature is above zero (Celsius)but would be ideal for downhill/alpine skiing at that temperature to keep the wind out.

Will the Norrona Falketind Gore-Tex Jacket be available in Caviar (Black) any time soon?

First, will you get this jacket in black?...

First, will you get this jacket in black? Second, how does the sizing compare to the trollveggen jacket? thanks for help!

I just got the trollveggen jacket and I love it. It naturally has a long cut + I went for a M when I am a natural S (for my application) but can be so easily adjusted to fit short and tuck up for when you are climbing and getting work done! Will be used as a technical shell in the warm months climbing and backpacking and sunny ski tours in the sierras.

The falketind appears better suited for winter conditions but perhaps could have a shorter cut. On the other hand they both appear to run a tiny bit big. I couldn't rock anything bigger than a M at 5'6" 156lbs. It's big. I shrink it up though with those draw cords and don't even notice!! Then Drop it down to keep the pow out ;).
