The weather-resistant Norrona Men's Falketind Flex1 Jacket thrives on grueling climbs above the tree line and lightweight trips to your favorite ascents. Designed for maximum mountaineering versatility, this breathable shell stretches to aid movement and provides excellent wind-and-water resistance in unpredictable alpine micro-climates. Norrona added shoulder-and-hip reinforcements for extra durability against a backpack or harness, and used stitch-less technology to improve comfort and softness while you climb. Underarm vents and an adjustable hood with stiff half-moon brim are proof that Norrona doesn't skimp on the details.

the hood is definitely "hood"! lol! tons of adjustment! awesome brim that's better than a baseball cap and it stays in place and isn't wobbly. love it! also the guard around the mouth is very softly lined with some type of microfibre or fleece. it's cozy

one word. "AMAZING"

By:
September 16, 2010

ok so i just got the jacket in a few days ago. lemme give you the run down.
-it fits like a dream, completely and utterly perfect!
-the brim is flawless with the "falketind" text on it. it's my favorite part
-i'm 6'3 and 178 and usually wear a medium or a small. i got the small in this and it's amazing. long enough for my sasquatch torso and the sleeves fit great!
-the cuffs fit awesome, they cover the top of the hand perfectly!
-the material is very stretchy and comfy and i havent experienced the pilling like some people have said because i've only had it a few days now
-the front pockets are great and can hold quite a bit as to the fact that theyre giant
-the vents function very well and are well placed.

i could go on and on about it's awesomeness!

basically... if you like the euro cut, and you like stylish gear that you can wear 20 years from now... go with this jacket! you won't regret it! by the way, i'll post a few pics

The reason you are seeing 2 different colors is because Norrana has utilized a slightly different fabric on the shoulders to handle carrying a back pack and wick moisture off a little better than on the body. But no this is an all shoulders and body look slightly different due to the fabrics, 'black' although they call it "Caviar" jacket.

im wearing a merino wool fleece underneath this. this should give you a quick idea on how euro cut it is. it's built for the tall and slender dude. oh and it's rather ninja looking if you ask me

i have a 39" chest as well. this jacket is size small and fits with room enough an undershirt, t-shirt, merino wool pullover, and room for probably another thicker layer. like an r2 fleece from patagonia.

Best light hooded softshell

By:
October 10, 2010

As with all Norrona products I have tried the fit is slim, however this jacket allows you to size up without issue due to the wrist velcro. Excellent breathability; good water resistance and very lightweight. I have not had any doubts about durability yet. In my opinion Norrona products are hard to beat for quality of build and are also well thought out in terms of design. This makes a great cycling jacket as well as for hiking/backpacking, climbing. Best hood with wire brim I have seen in a softshell.

cuffs are great, tons of adjustment and don't look goofy, they're actually very cool imho. also the you could easily fit some big gloves in em if you wanted. also top flaps are meant to be some type of top of hand cover. very cool. two velcro spots as well

Some pilling

By:
August 6, 2010

I agree, Best fit of any jacket I have owned and very breathable, but I also have experienced the pilling of the jacket specifically on the sides under the arms and some on the back. I have also noticed some loose threads on the jacket. Not sure what the deal is with that, but I am kind of disappointed it hasn't held up better.

could have been great

By:
July 28, 2010

Great fit, really versatile - the most breathable softshell I've ever owned - but with one fatal flaw. The fabric used for the body is really poor and has shown considerable signs of wear and tear after only a few months of use. Significant pilling on the back, bottom portion of the jacket due to friction from backpack. The reinforced/durable fabric used for the shoulders / arms / hips has held up well but they should have either made the entire jacket from this stronger material or at least used a fabric that doesn't start to wear after only a few months of use.

Falketind

By: Backcountry.com Employee
April 21, 2010

Size XL back length of jacket is 30.5" . There is a drop-down hem which makes it 3.5" longer than the front hem. Norrona's Falketind line is designed for mountaineering. I am 6'1" and 175 lbs. I am wearing a tall tee underneath as well.

Material is the same, the shell on this one feels thinner because it doesn't have the same micro fiber liner the Svalbard has. It is mainly the styling that sets them apart for their intended uses, check my answer on the Svalbard

Do you know if there is a way to tuck the 'flaps' that cover the hands out of the way when you don't need them?

Thanks; the photo and accompanying description are really helpful in trying to decide between this jacket and the Norrona Svalbard Flex1. Any thoughts on the comparible breathability between these two jackets? Are they made of the same 'Flex1' material?
