Operation Falling Star

One day I decided to take a group of men to the top of a mountain during the Perseid meteor shower. We left the trailhead at about 10 PM standard Pacific time. We were headed to the south sister located in the Pacific Northwest. We like hiking at night because it's very cool and there's not a lot of foot traffic. Once we reached the false summit, it was still very dark and the stars were falling out of the sky, consequently, it was also very cold and I was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, some new hiking socks that ended up being really crappy, and my brand new Norrona Lofoten fleece. I know what you're thinking, "who's fault is that?" Anyway... Turns out the Norrona fleece zips all the way up past my face! Thus, locking the heat from my breath into my facial compartment, and thankfully saving my life! I love Norrona! I slept in a frozen volcano and lived to wear the tail.

    Gets it right

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size

I'm quickly realizing that Norrona really gets it right with fleece. This has the typical long-and-lean Norrona fit. I'm 5-10 and 140 and the Small fits well. It's very soft; thin but substantial. Packs a good amount of warmth for its weight. Looks and feels good just to wear around. Two things Norrona or Backcountry don't mention are that the pockets are open, but the right pocket contains a small zippered pocket inside, and that the main zipper runs from the bottom of the jacket straight through the peak of the hood, so you can zip your face entirely into the hood if you want to catch a nap. "Cool black" is a cool color, but it's in no way black. It's a blue-gray, with a silverish cast. This is just a great piece that does what Norrona says--functions well as a technical piece or as something to hang out or cruise around in.
