Exactly what I was looking for

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've been a Nixon watch wearer for years. I had the Scout for about 10 years and I replaced it with this. I was looking for a tough analog watch with glowing hands that could handle getting wet and prolonged outdoor exposure. This watch is perfect for what I was looking for. The inside of the strap is stitched with PU (maybe leather, but I'm not sure) so the nylon isn't against the skin. When you're outside and sweating, this is a huge plus.
My only hang-up is what the other reviewer mentioned. The strap holes are a little off. One is a little loose and the other is too tight. Not a huge deal, but there are times when the face slips to the bottom of my wrist. But it isn't annoying enough to get rid of it. Oh, and the hands GLOW. I'm really stoked on this purchase.

quality watch

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

4 stars only because I'm not a huge fan of the strap. The placement of the holes is awkward. Its a little loose on what I have it on, but if I tighten it then it becomes way too tight. That said, I was looking for a quality, durable watch that had glowing hands and markers for the hours. Something I can wear every day and out in the wilderness as well. This is it.

A hoi hoi,
Is the waterproofing 50m or 100m? Nixon says 50m, BC.com says 100m. Who's the lucky winner? Also is this watch surfable?

Best Answer Responded on

It is rated at 100m. Can't help on the second question sorry.

let the journey begin

The Rover II really exemplifies what Nixon is all about: rugged simplicity wrapped in an engaging design that might even inspire a little wanderlust along the way. But what I was most pleasantly surprised by with this watch, is how powerful the luminescence is. A brief charge in natural sunlight results in a reassuring glow that lasts well into the night - a glow that's right on par with what I would expect from some Swiss or Japanese watch brands. Granted, it's not quite as bright as C3 Superluminova or Seiko's LumiBrite panels (probably the technical inspiration here), but still very damn good - easily the best I've experienced from Nixon. Bear in mind that the lume on the All Black and the Surplus colorways is going to be a little brighter than the white lume on the regular Black colorway, as those green hues tend to hold a subtly brighter glow for longer. Peep this photograph to see the impressive green lume shortly after a fresh charge from an LED lamp.

* not a huge fan of the included strap. Its leather backing and custom keeper rings are very nice, but the fitment holes are located too far apart and my small wrist is apparently in between sizes. Obviously not everyone will have this problem, but it was enough for me to change the strap out for a nylon zulu I had lying around
