is there a way to set the watch to military...
is there a way to set the watch to military time?
It looks tougher than it is
This looks cool if you have a big arm and wrist. As noted by others the display is dim. Also, I don't recommend using it for water sports even though it says water resistant to 100m. Mine got fogged up in the pool.
Looks sick, and thats it
Got this watch and the compass function had the arrows/readings for west/east backwards. It would say W and be pointing East (to the right) it required constant calibration and I have a feeling since the compass automatically turns off after 30 seconds it drains the battery very quickly. The band is made out of pretty firm plastic, so if you have a small wrist it sticks out on the sides.
MADE IN CHINA
If you just want this for its looks and digital watch function, its a decent watch, but I expected the compass to actually work.
Do not buy this watch
Save your money and buy the lodown if you are looking for a good surfing watch with tides. The outsider is way to big and mine crapped out after the first day. Overall a poor watch, disappointed nixon makes it..
Nixon outsider black and blue
I bought the watch cause I liked the time display and that's what I mainly wanted, that and a Nixon. But since I bought it I receive nothing but compliments and being that I'm military it is daily. Good watch and within regulations just got a little backlight happy and need new batteries already.
A previous reviewer mentioned that the screen on this watch was extremely dim, to the point that reading it is difficult. I went ahead with the purchase anyway hoping that he got a defective unit, as he suspected the same. Well, its not a defect (unless I so happen to have gotten a bad one as well). The screen is virtually impossible to read indoors without popping the back-light on. Outside (no pun intended) its a little bit better but not much. I'll be sending this back, with great disappointment.
Not Recommended for people with Small / Medium sized wrists.
The way this watch is designed, you need a large wrist size. The straps come out of the main watch body at a set angle and that angle is not meant for small wrists. I have medium sized wrists and could barely fit into the watch, there was a small amount of space left at joints where the strap meets the watch face (nothing you can do about it).
Great watch, but...
I really liked this watch. Only problem was that the fact was really, really dark. I'm sure sure if it was a manufacturers defect, but I had to return it because it didn't make sense to have a watch that you had to squint at every time you wanted to see what time it was. This watch really does look rad though, and assuming you can see what time it is works well. The compass feature is a really nice touch.
Careful with the color...
I was super stoked on the watch... however, the red is not so "Red" it's much closer to "Hunter Orange" I asked several people to tell me what color it is and nobody said "Red". Other than that the watch is solid. Compass feature works great.
just wondering what the wrist size of the...
just wondering what the wrist size of the strap is like? ive beened not so blessed with skinny enough wrists so just wonderin if the sizing is ok!
There is lots of adjustment on the outsider as well as all Nixon watches. It will fit everybody.

Is there a way to leave the light on all the time? Have trouble reading the time on the fly...
No sorry. The light only comes on when you push the button.
That would eat your battery alive, how fast are you going?
how big is the band?
how big is the band?
The case diameter is 49 mm, the band is slightly less than that. Case thickness is 15 mm.
On the Nixon website this watch...
On the Nixon website this watch is displayed with a black face. The picture on dogfunk has a white/gray face, is there any way to order the black?
Looks like a black face to me...
In response to "KOROSURF" statement that...
In response to "KOROSURF" statement that this watch "Needs Tide data for 200 beaches then it would be sick"...it is coming. For the Holiday 2009 season this watch will have a big brother..."The Outsider Tide." And per your request, this watch will have "pre-programmed tide information for 200 beaches for the next 15 years." (from the Holiday 2009 Nixon catalog).
In conclusion, ask and you shall receive...
The wait is over...Now I can go pee.
could be better
Needs Tide data for 200 beaches then it would be sick, could also have clear colored urethane band even extra sick
I ordered the red one, it is more orange...
I ordered the red one, it is more orange than red. Does anyone else have this problem or is mine just the orange sheep?
"Red" does actually look very orange.
outsider is slick
This time piece is easy to use, has a unique casual yet futuristic style, and is very easy to read. It can be a bit tricky to put on because of the material its made outta, but I'm glad I snagged one.
As always, big props to the DogFunk crew for being so fast and friendly.
