Do the hands on the watch glow in the dark? If so do they need to be held under a light for recharge?

That is indeed a luminous coating on the hands and numbers.

Super clean watch, my new FAVORITE. The PU band is soooo comfy. Also the PU is waterproof unlike the leather bands found on the other 51-30s which is hella tight. Just a clean 5/5 watch in my book.
see this watch on wrists on tv all the time.

I own the PU black/purple as well as the metal high polish. the pu band is very comfortable and doesnt get all sweaty and stuck to the skin the way a rubber band might. also it feels about half the weight of the metal. i would not recommend an black on black face because it is very hard to read even with the luminous dial. ive seen Bj novak from "the office" wear this watch.(in black/blue) jeremy piven has a gunmetal, and one of the black eyed peas wears the gold/brown. very versitile and a genuine must have from nixon.

I got this watch before a 6 month trip through south america, and it freakin rocks! I traveled through sweltering, muggy rain forests, freezing mountain tops, and riding big waves along the coast. Despite taking some huge wipe outs, the 51-30′s time remained perfectly aligned with my network synced computers time. If there was one drawback, it was the thing just looked so damn pretty got a little sketchy looking that flashy in Columbia :P
btw, check out

you can get the watch (PU strap) for $25 cheaper ($299 instead of $324).
Best Watch Ever!

I am really hard on watches but this may be the last one I buy. I've had this watch for 3 years and after all the hiking, diving, and swimming there still isn't one leak, scratch, or problem. The locking looper that holds the band in place tore and had to be replaced but other than that this watch is a real good bet.

I have had this watch for almost three years. I got a black and lime one, and there are seriously hardly any scratches on the case, and there are none on the crystal. It is super great for diving, and any other ocean play, SOLID

I absolutely love this watch! I originally bought the all black and returned it for the gunmetal and black. The dial on the all black was just a little too difficult to read for me. I am very glad I went with the gunmetal and black! I love how big the watch is. I am in my 40's and have a skinny wrist but I absolutely love the way it feels and looks. If you want a cool, moderately priced Kick A** watch, you HAVE TO GET A NIXON!!

love Nixon watches - this one is their best!
Looks like i ripped a clock of the wall and slapped it on my wrist - everyone notices it, gets the job done perfectly! no issues, not all that heavy if you get the PU version. Metal band looks icy, but it might make you look like fratted-out d-bagger with with all that shiny silver - go with PU or leather.
white face black band looks classic - gives it that less-is-more look
Love it, love it, love it!

Is this watch powered by movement or quartz?...

Is this watch powered by movement or quartz? Shopping.com seem to suggest its a "self winding/automatic" watch?
Zach Pina

"Self-winding/automatic?" Not quite, the 51-30 PU is a Swiss quartz movement, and still needs a regular watch battery for the juice.

This is one bad ass watch. And it is big so if you have a little arm I would suggest somethig else. The 51-30 has all the bells and whistles for a true waterman and it will be noticed when your wearing it around on the town. They are tough and very comfortable...if you're an adventurer try one out.

Well, the watch is AMAZING !! But i would like to talk about the great service of BackCountry. I am in Brazil and my parents is on vacantions in NY. I was kind of afraid to by online and send for the hotel that they are. Backcountry, with a perfect customer service, gives-me the safety that i need. Congratulations for your team, that is just the BETTER site i have ever buy.
