No second hand. You gotta count.

The countdown bezel works. Good for timing the pizza or the shower. The thing's chunky, but not enormous. Fits nicely on the wrist. Isn't there a bigger version with more dials? Controls are easy--not like doing a Casio digital or even the beloved Rip Curl analog tide watch. It won't be mistaken for a vintage 1970 Omega. The numbers seem to owe something to Bell & Ross, but out-of-kilter.

Band is attached to watch with screws! The band itself has a clever Nixon bump that keeps its end from coming loose and flapping around. Very secure.

the lower control knob controls the tide. Find a tide chart for your spot, unscrew the knob, press once till there's a beep, then keep pressing knob until the hand moves to the right position. Easy, the second time.

how does the tide part work? do you set it at a certain tide and then it keeps track, or what? I've looked at alot of tide watches and some only work for the atlantic ocean. i need one that will work for the pacific.

The dial sets for wherever you are--it runs the world-standard approx. 6 hour cycle. It's easier to deal with than digital watches where you have to pick from a menu of 200 or so spots worldwide.

Smallest fit (without cutting the band) is 6 inches wrist circumference, set by a clever bump on the band that fits into a hole on the retainer (the bump says "Nixon").

Nixon has no info on band length, so my guess would be about maybe 6 1/2 to 7. The band is poly so if you wanted to you could customize it to your wrist if it doesn't go small enough, poking a hole in a plastic band isn't that horrible, but shelling out 270 coin for a watch that doesn't fit is. If you dig this watch, you might be able to get a different band(velcro)from Nixon Repair On-Line.
