Here's what others have to say...

Comfortable & great grip but not durable

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I agree with an earlier reviewer - these shoes were great to start but they're falling apart. I have had these shoes exactly a year and both are shredding across the top of the foot I will have to throw them out. I am an extremely casual trail runner I have probably only run 150km in them maybe slightly more. Thumbs down for wear and tear!

Noisy trail shoes

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I've been running in these for a couple of months; with 150 miles on the shoes, a hole appeared in the cloth upper. Thus, I don't think this shoe is rugged enough for trails. I can still run in them with the hole. However, from day 1, the "rock plate" which is a cheap piece of clear lugged rubber on the sole, makes a squeaky noise when making contact with any surface except mud. This is annoying on the trails and embarrassing when walking through the gym or grocery store. If I were New Balance, I'd go back to the drawing board and completely revamp this shoe.

Super comfortable but falling apart.

Update after 8 months:

I didn't get to use these shoes much until the spring and have only put about 75 miles on them so far. They are already falling apart, exactly how another reviewer has described. Near the toe, the fabric is tearing (see photo). The cushion around the ankle is also showing significant wear. I am extremely disappointed as these are the most comfortable trail shoes I've owned, but I will not be buying New Balance again. I think I'll spend a little bit more and try out a different brand of trail runners that are hopefully better constructed.

Original post: After years of uncomfortable hikes in boots, I finally decided to switch to trail runners and I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I bought these because I always wear New Balance sneakers at the gym and they fit me well since I have a wider foot. This pair was no exception. They fit perfectly.

There was absolutely no break in period. The first time I wore them, I went on a nine mile hike with a 20 pound pack through mud, ice and snow. My feet got wet, but the shoes and my feet and socks dried quickly (I wore wool socks and a pair of sock liners). I wouldn't wear these on a multi day trip without lots of extra socks, but they are excellent for a day hike.

Super comfortable but falling apart.

So far so good

I have worn these to the gym a couple of times, running on the treadmill, on the elliptical and lifting weights. I have been measured at about an 8.5 foot but i always like to get my shoes a little bigger to accommodate my little bit wider foot. The 9 feels great. These feel pretty good on my wider foot. I love the colors and i have a fairly high arch that these seem to support well.
