Description

Minimalist design wrapped in the comfort of an everyday shoe.

The Women's WO80 Minimus Running Shoe is the first multi-sport shoe in New Balance's Minimus Collection. Lightweight and highly flexible with a low heel drop, this shoe puts your foot in a natural position and eliminates the bulky feeling caused by a traditional, heavily cushioned hiker or trail running shoe. No-sew construction means that you can wear either a thin pair of socks or go barefoot inside this shoe. Wear the WO80 for trail running, traveling, light hiking, or when you're kicking around the backyard and you just want to feel light on your feet without going shoeless.

  • Minimalist-style upper is built with lightweight materials that are durable enough to protect your foot from trail hazards while still remaining flexible enough so your foot can move naturally underneath
  • No-sew construction eliminates the seams caused by sewn-together upper materials so this shoe is more flexible and free of hot spots that can cause chafing
  • Midsole platform is firm enough to provide support and just stable enough to keep you balanced and agile on the trail when the surface is unpredictable
  • Vibram outsole is grippy enough for slick, hard surfaces like rock or loose surfaces like sandy trails
  • Low 4mm heel offset more closely aligns the height of your heel and forefoot to encourage you to land on your midfoot or forefoot during foot strike
  • Low heel offset also positions your foot in a more natural position so you can roll off your toes faster as you come to the end of your stride
  • Vibram rubber is one of the most durable outsole materials offered in the trail shoe marketplace
  • Heel loop makes it easier to grab onto the back of this shoe when you're pulling your foot past the heel pocket and underneath the close-fitting upper

Trail Running anyone?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

These shoes are a great shoe for trails, the sole of the shoe feels a little like you're walking/running on cleats when you are on pavement. I would say the design is a little more for hiking/trail running to help in the rocky terrain.
I personally have used mine for trails only, since they were a little uncomfortable to run in around the park. They are a stiffer shoe as well, but I feel that is due to the goretex fabric used on the making of this shoe. It is great and waterproof/breathable though!
They did run large on me, I wear a 7.5 in every shoe, and ordered a 7.5 just to see how these would feel (don't worry, i usually size up on my trail running/running shoes) and they actually felt more like an 8 or an 8.5, they are way roomy!
Overall, I do like these shoes, I just wouldn't really use them for just running around town, unless I wear down the soles a little more.

Interesting style shoe.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I have a pair of WT10 minimus trail shoes that I love, so I thought I would give these a try. They are odd. They are quite narrow, and though they have minimal cushioning ( pretty much none, like most minimalist shoes) they are oddly stiff. If I try to bend the shoe while holding it in both hands, its actually difficult. Overall, I just didn't feel like I would be able to run in something that minimal yet not flexible.

I gave them to my mom and she liked them for walks around the yard, so maybe it just depends what you intend to use them fore.

I'm getting 2 more pair . . .

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

. . . because I can't live without them. Fit like they were already broken in the first time I put them on (but make sure you order a size up, I normally wear 8.5-9, and had to get a 9.5), they are so lightweight you barely notice them. They have survived two months of hiking through the muddiest jungle you can imagine, and still going strong. The colors are fantastic, I have black/pink. Love New Balance, thank you!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have worn these shoes indoor maybe 5 times and there is already 2 holes coming through gray fabric.Rating 2
