Description

A minimalist running shoe modified to handle the water.

With the recent explosion in popularity of stand-up paddleboarding, minimalist running shoes have found a new calling on the water. To create the Women's MO70 Water Shoe, New Balance adapted their popular Minimus running shoe to the water without departing too far from the original design. This new, water-specific design incorporates quick-drying materials, drain holes in the midsole, and non-slip rubber on the outsole. Light and low to the ground, this shoe is everything you need to keep you balance on your stand up and navigate tricky, slippery surfaces with confidence.

  • Synthetic mesh upper is well ventilated, lightweight, and highly flexible for comfort
  • Soft interior lining feels comfortable against your skin so you can run with or without socks
  • Both upper and lining materials are fast drying and odor resistant
  • Perforated midsole structure allows water to drain out of this shoe quickly and easily
  • 4mm drop (heel-forefoot offset) aligns your heel and forefoot at nearly level positioning so each step feels more natural than a traditional shoe with an elevated heel
  • Rubber outsole securely grips the deck of your stand up and gives you traction on wet rocks, docks, and boat decks

Just what I was looking for!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've had these shoes for about a year now and I absolutely love them. I primarily use them for dragon boating, long boarding to work, as well as the occasional SUP. I don't have an issue with my feet going through the holes like the previous reviewer did, but my one complaint would be the awkward seam that lines right where my toes meet the front of the shoe. My toe nails seem to get caught on it when I walk, and I swear I don't have long, gangly toe nails -- they are very well pedicured. However, since I'm usually just sitting in a boat or standing on a board, it's usually not an issue. Besides that, these shoes are just what I needed. They drain VERY well, dry quickly, have excellent grip and traction, and are very comfortable. Most importantly, they don't stink. Some of my teammates on the boat have water shoes that REEK!!! You can seriously smell them within a 10-foot radius. These shoes are super easy to care for. Every day after practice or after a hot summertime long board sesh, I rinse them off and they're good to go for the next time -- no stink!

Cool Concept, bad execution

I noticed these don't have any reviews so I figured I'd give some feedback. I was REALLY excited when I saw these existed because they were minimalist shoes (love!) that would be good for going in and out of puddles, streams, etc. and my old Salomon's designed to do this had taken a huge beating and had holes which let in too much debris. I didn't have the cash in hand to grab a pair so I drooled over them for months and finally decided to try them on for sizing and was REALLY disappointed. The holes in the bottom of the shoes to drain out water are way too big so you actually, literally feel the ground beneath you. I like "knowing" what's beneath me and "feeling" it through a protective layer but even walking around a store with these on my feet got gross and it was way too weird to feel my feet push through the holes in the bottom. For that reason alone I would have been miserable in them. The entire bottom is rubber with no insole and I did not find that comfortable. With how lightweight most minimalist shoes are I imagine that they dry pretty fast and clearly outperform this shoe in comfort. Anyone looking for a great water sneaker should check out Solomon or another brand unless they like feeling the ground beneath them with every step.
