Gut the mountain with talons and a razor-sharp beak.

Never Summer's flagship freeride/big mountain board, the Raptor, is beyond pissed-off. This mid-stiff, high performance freecarver features a directional shape and directional rocker camber that will blast through chunder and lay down laser-precise carves on the hardpack. The Raptor owns the mountain. (Cue old-west bird-of-prey call).

  • Never Summer's patented Rocker and Camber (R.C.) profile puts rocker under and between your bindings for float and forgiveness with camber toward the tip and tail for powerful turns and control on hardpack
  • Carbonium topsheet is scratch- and chip-resistant and provides traction like a stomp pad for better control while riding one-footed
  • Carbonium laminate technology uses carbon fiber in the construction of the board for light weight, durability, and tons of pop
  • Directional Rocker Camber designed specifically for high-speed carving stability and exclusive to the Raptor
  • Bi-Lite fiberglass provides added strength with a super-light glass fiber matrix
  • NS superlight wood core blends extremely light wood with durable hardwood for light weight, durability, and pop
  • STS pretensioned fiberglasswith added elastomer stringers for durability
  • CDS damping System increases edge hold and high speed stability with thin elastomer stringers that absorb vibration
  • Ultra-durable Sintered P-Tex Sidewalls maintain strength at any temperature to eliminate cracking
  • Durasurf XT Sintered graphite-infused base for ridiculous speed
  • P-Tex tip and tail protection reduces damage in an impact. No more splinters

Cue audible woots

First of all, my quick bio: I'm 6'3" - 195 lbs - size 10.5-11 boot - 22" stance - regular +18*, 0*. I'm an advanced 15 year rider and have spent the last 7 seasons on a 164 Burton Triumph. It is a tapered directional big mountain board that I have loved and thought was at the apex of the big mountain slaying boards... until now. I just spent my first day on the 2013 164 Raptor yesterday and all I can say is AMAZING. Conditions were 32-35* with 2-3 inches of fresh Utah snow on ten day old ice which led to soft, chopped up crud on with ice underneath. Others have compared the Raptor to a Ferarri or Lambo because you don't realize how fast you are going since the board is so stable at speed. That pretty much sums it up! Hard packed bowls were a breeze compared to my old 164 Burton Triumph. I was keeping up with my expert skier friends before... now I'm beating them down the mountain by a good margin. After 15 years of riding, this board has taught an old dog new tricks and improved my riding significantly. The board also worked WONDERS on my fatigue. I don't know if it is the dampening or the RC hybrid, but when I would usually be spent and need a break for my style of hard agressive riding, I was still going strong and my legs were still fresh. That alone made this board worth its weight in gold. I'm a weekend warrior so I have to make the most of my days on the mountain.

The RC hybrid led to effortless edge to edge transition while carving and incredible edge hold on the ice. I could feel the additional edge digging in when needed from the the rocker portion of the board that I was missing in my old cambered Burton. The Vario/RC combo makes this a viable alternative to magnetraction. Other boarders were sliding out on some bad patches of ice but the Raptor allowed to me to hit those areas with confidence. The Raptor is a perfect board for me... an agressive hard charging free rider that doesn't hit the park.

Raptor on Baldy

Raptor on Baldy

I love this board, so easy to get around...can do everything you want on the mountain (I thought it would be a lil' too short in deep powder for me {161cm, I'm 6'2"} & I was dead wrong)...oh baby, a pleasure to ride!

Raptor X

Setup: Never Summer Raptor x 161
Burton Driver X Boots Size 12
Burton Diod Reflex Bindings
Binding Angles +12/+3 Forward
Background: 2nd season snowboarding. First board was K2 Slay blade which was absolutely terrible on the east coast hard pack ice. Needed a board for those condition d/t most if not all my riding is on hard pack/ice. Inquired at the (James) who told me out of the 3 boards I was interested in (custom x, Rossi onemagtek, and raptor) the raptor had the best edge hold. Used the Raptor X (6 times so far) on hard pack/ice and it holds an edge without any issue of washing out. I would just bail out on the slay blade which would ruin my time boarding in those conditions. Not with the Raptor X, I hold edge at fighter jet speed (lol) and I have nothing but confidence when on this board. I am charging hard, fast and carving short/long radius turns ripping the mountain up while passing other boarders who have to bail in those conditions on the steep. It feels so good to ride through those conditions. The board can be ridden switch easy but I don’t have much use for going switch (no park for me). Has good pop for straight air and easy torsional flex where you can really bend the board when you want to. Needs new wax with every 10 hours of boarding... Disagree with reviews that you need to be and advanced or expert boarder for this board or that this board will buck you off etc… 2nd year boarding and I have no problem with this board,,, I feel this board raised my boarding ability up a few notches and don’t waste $$ on something so called more forgiving. Very happy with this board!

Amazing powder board

I bought this board in 2010 (yellow and black). I was previously riding a sims ritual board. It was night and day in the powder. I do a lot of big mountain and powder riding. (powder snob not a park rat, lol) and I honestly don't think there is anything better out there. The aggressive reverse camber makes carving effortless. On hard pack its kinda annoying. It seams to want to wash out pretty easy and you have to stay on top of things. The board is also tougher than nails. Still don't have a scratch on it and I'm pretty tough on boards, always hitting iron bunnies, Snowmobiles and truck beds seam to take a toll on other boards, but this one holds up. I love this board so much that I'm going to buy a beater this year for the ice and rocks, and save this one just for the powder days. I know it would would hold up but I want this board to last for years and years. So if you love big mountains and deep snow buy this board.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I literally get stopped at every resort we hit in CO by those in the know (ski shops, apres ski) : "Dude, You got the raptor 25th anniversary! That is a NICE board." It's like instant street cred by just having this board. It's my favorite possession. Floats, carves and is SUPER fast. I love this baby! (And I'm new to the sport)
