Short for prototype, the Never Summer Proto HD Snowboard represents the very best in top-shelf board technologies, creating an enlightening all-terrain freestyle ride that rips icy terrain parks and fresh, powdery chutes. This twin-shaped board delivers excellent float through the deep stuff without any set-back, thanks to its Extended Transition Rocker Camber profile. Based off Never Summer's Rocker Camber profile, the board features rocker underfoot with camber starting just past the bindings, continuing into Extended Transition Zones. Coupled with the board's low-profile tip and tail, these Extended Transition zones give the Proto HD its fluid edge-to-edge feel, also increasing float through deep, bottomless powder.

Keeping the Proto HD riding nice and smooth, Harmonic Dampers are placed at the tip and tail, helping to reduce high-speed chatter without deadening pop and liveliness. The Perforated Rocker Pad absorbs vibration between the feet, and Carbonium laminates keep the board torsionally responsive when you're hauling at blistering speeds. Add in the super-fast Durasurf XT Sintered 5501 base and ice-gripping Vario Power Grip Sidecut for an all-mountain freestyle ride that doesn't compromise edge hold for powder floatation.

great board

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

There's a reason Never Summer is like a cult... cuz until you finally ride their board, is when you realize what the hype is all about

Amazing ride.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have not rode that many boards in my day but have gone through about 5 decks the last few years and went from Camber to Rocker to this new style Rocker / Camber and I must say it is a nice transition. It flows edge to edge very smoothly, allowed me hold on edge on Ice while also floating over some shallow powder. 99 percent of my riding is on the east coast so I many do groomers, treat runs and the park. This board so far crushes everything in site. On my tradition Camber board I was able to hit over 60 mph however on my last Rocker style board I could only hit mid 50s since it was a bit too shaky at high speeds for me to dial it up anymore. On this board I was able to hit those numbers again and man did it feel good. I was also able to accomplish the full circle on the mountain due to the fact that this board flexes so well in the turns. I have only rode it for 2 days but I can truly say I LOVE the ride and will probably be picking up a Never Summer in the future.

On the first day I did not hit a single thing with the board and already noticed a sizable chip on the top coat, something I thought the carbon top sheet would avoid but it did not protect it as well as I would think.

Looking forward to more rides with the board this year.

I ride size 11 Burton Ambush boots with footprint reduction so they fit like a size 10 and L/XL Union Atlas bindings. I really want one of these boards, but don't know what size I should get (waist size of the board), any help?

Typically at size 11 you should be on a "wide" model board (even in burton boots). So you may be better off with the Proto HD X. Size 8 boots and size Small Burton bindings are a perfect fir for me on the 152 HD (24.4 cm waist width), so even at the 25.5 cm waist width, the 160 HD may be narrow for you.

One of the best boards i've ever shred!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been riding for about 20 years and I have seen and done it all. I used to be a park rat, but these days I have been getting out into the back country a lot more. I bought this board because my previous board, after about 8 years, finally bit the dust. The first day I rode the NS Proto, I couldn't believe what a difference the rocker camber made! Coming from an old Never Summer SL model, it seriously made such a huge difference! I have never been that stoked on a board the first day riding it! I have hit everything from chop to deep pow, rails to jumps and I couldn't be more pumped on this board's performance! I would highly recommend this board for people who don't stick to one part of the mountain. I can fully agree that this board is truly the swiss army knife of snowboards! I have always loved Never Summer and this board verifies my passion! Get after it!

This board sounds beast! Anyone ride it?

I bought the 2013 and it doesn't look like anything changed. Rode it at Whistler and Brighton with Union Contact Pro bindings. Great all around board. Good pop, soft landings, and good float. I've become a huge never summer fan. I own an SL for deep POW, but won't hesitate to take this one anywhere. Also own a Burton Super Hero for parks and tooling around on the east coast, but if I'm taking one board, this one is definitely it.

I just rode this board from a demo... This board can take anything from runs to park. I'm planning to get this board myself soon. One of the best boards that can handle the mountain and the park.

I own 5 Different Snowboards. Proto HD is my most favorite board among them. It has great Pop and good flex to handle park, and also amazing responsiveness and enough stiffness for carving.
Plus NeverSummer is famous for its durability. You will never be wrong to buy Proto HD. Trust me
