The NEMO Equipment Transform Tarp is versatile enough to go from gear cover to person cover depending on your needs. Nylon material is lightweight but sturdy, and the standard square designs turns into a compact three-sided pyramid shelter that can protect up to three people from the elements as long as they're packed in head-to-toe. Whether you use it as your main shelter on a Appalachian through-hike or as a tarp for around camp, the Transform Tarp is ready for pretty much anything.

  • Lightweight 30D nylon with a polyurethane coating repels moisture and wind to protect you from the elements
  • Pole-free design means you can use a trekking pole, a kayak paddle, a DAC monopole, or a fallen branch to provide support for your shelter
  • Reinforced pole pocket securely holds your central support
  • Both doors in the opening tie back for ventilation
  • Square tarp shape transforms into a three-sided pyramid with an overlapping door
  • Two pounds and ten ounces of weight won't weigh you down on the trail
  • Volumizing vents can be guyed out to increase both ventilation and internal headroom
  • Floorless design helps you travel light
  • Optional footprint (sold separately) puts a bit of protection between you and the ground
  • Stakes are included so you can turn this tarp into a secure shelter right out of the box
  • Dry-bag style stuff sack seals out moisture
  • Repair kit prepares you for the unforeseen snags that so often crop up on long treks

Maybe okay in some places, but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This seemed like a great option for a cook shelter this past April/May up in Little Switzerland, AK. Things started off well enough, relatively easy setup, etc. The first several days I was definitely pleased with the performance, but then with a turn in the weather, came a turn in the performance of the Nemo Transform. Between wind and snow, the top (anchor point) seam ripped, and as a result, one whole side ripped. Thankfully, we had a healthy supply of duct tape! I'd say it's decent for moderate conditions, but for an AK storm, not so much...

Exactly what I was looking for.

Bought this for cold weather camping. Wanted a floorless shelter so I can quickly heat water for morning coffee without getting out of my tent.

Took it out to test May 2013.

Used it in the pyramid configuration using a trekking pole. There is a top loop to hang the tip of the pyramid from if you want to try and fit the spec'd 2-3 people. With the pole, it's more than enough room for ONE person plus gear. Ventilation is great but bugs can get in if used in the warm months. I found a caterpillar on my bedroll but didn't bother me.

    My nitpicky complaints: (Mostly subjective)

    1. Wish it came with more tent pegs.

    2. Supposed to come with a repair kit, I think, but mine didn't. No biggie.

    3. The "pole pocket" has a bump in the middle that I'm sure is not an issue if you're using a hollow pole. Won't sit properly with the tip of a trekking pole but I got it to work.

    4. Need better instruction/illustration in setting up to eliminate guesswork when pitching for the first time.

    5. Drawstring of the stuff sack sucks.

For what I paid I got versatile product that I can use as a tarp, tent, picnic groundcloth and who knows what else. I am glad I got it. I wanted to get a second one as a backup but I was vetoed by my financial manager (wife).

Exactly what I was looking for.
