You can have the fanciest four-person tent in the world, but it won't do you much good backpacking if you can't carry it. The NEMO Pentalite 4P Shelter is roomy enough for four people but weighs just over one pound per person. It can be hard to find a weight-to-room ratio that low, even among ultralight backpacking tents, so a shelter like the Pentalite is a great choice if you're focused on keeping your pack light but need room for several people. The Pentagonal shape differs from standard square shelters and gives you a more rectangular sleeping area and a vestibule space to store gear. The Pentalite 4P Wedge (sold separately) can be added if you want your sleeping area to have a solid floor between you and the ground and mesh door to keep out insects.

  • Lightweight 30D nylon with a polyurethane coating repels moisture and wind to protect you from the elements
  • A single DAC center pole reduces total pack weight, and you can trade out the tent pole for a trekking pole or kayak paddle to shave off another pound
  • One double door can be tied back, and by adding the Pentalite Wedge (sold separately) you can section off a separate sleeping area and a vestibule
  • Pentagonal shape has room for four to sleep without any head-to-foot nonsense so this shelter can sleep more people per pound than almost any ultralight tent
  • Four pounds and four ounces of weight (three pounds and five ounces if you leave the pole behind) won't weigh you down on the trail
  • Volumizing vents can be guyed out to increase both ventilation and internal headroom
  • Floorless design helps you travel light, but adding the Wedge will add a floor to the sleeping half of the tent if you need more coverage
